NSCDC arrests retired police inspector and 18 others over child molestation allegations

                                     The Jigawa Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense has confirmed the arrest of 19 persons, including a retired police inspector for allegedly molesting a 13-year-old child. The corps’ spokesman in the state, SC Adamu Shehu said the said the suspects were arrested on Thursday at about 4 p.m., in Kiyawa village, in Kiyawa local government area of the state. FRSC returns recovered N2m to crash victim

                   The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has rescued crash victims involved in a lone accident on the Lagos /Ibadan Expressway and returned over N2million recovered from the  scene to the mother of the owner. Clement Oladele, the FRSC Sector Commander in Ogun, disclosed to NAN in Abeokuta today that the accident happened around 10:15am and it involved 11 people, comprising of three men, six female adult and two female children. The sector commander noted that though, there were no deaths recorded, nine of the passengers who included three male  and six female adults sustained serious injuries. “The lone crash involved a Yellow Toyota LiteAce bus with registration number WWD 558 XA travelling from Ibadan to Lagos. NECO Registrar, two Deputy Directors sacked

                     The Registrar of the National Examinations Council(NECO), Professor Charles Uwakwe has been sacked. Along with the Registrar, two Deputy Directors were also disengaged for reasons connected to corruption. No official reason have been given for the disengagement of the Register and The Nation gathered that the disengagement have not been made known to most of the staff of the Council. Sources in the Council said that the sack may have come about because of the award of a N25 billion contract which was without the knowledge of either the Federal ministry of education or the governing board of the council. While another source disclosed that the Registrar had recruited some staff without the knowledge of the appropriate authorities. I am not afraid of water or death' - Nigerian migrant speaks on why she risked her life going to Italy from Libya

                            A Nigerian female migrant, identified as Vitoria, who was among the over 100 migrants rescued last week by Medecin Sans Frontieres and SOS Méditerranee chartered Aquarius ship, has spoken on why she decided to risk the perilous crossing from Libya into Italy. “I was not afraid of the water, because God created the water. I’m not afraid of death. We all die one day. I’m more afraid if the Libyan police were to catch me again, because they are so wicked,” the 21 year-old Nigerian told newsmen after she was rescued. She was in the the group of migrants  to arrive at Sicilian city Catania on Thursday, which included six women, 32 teenagers and six children. Nigerian Army ambushes bandits, kills three in Zamfara

                               The military operation tagged: “Operation Idan Raini” killed three bandits in Zamfara State on Friday, according to Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Clement Abiade. Mr Abiade, a major, said in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gusau, the state capital that “the army troops encountered the bandits in the notorious Dansadau bush on Friday”. He said many of the bandits had been overpowered by the soldiers and therefore escaped with gunshot wounds. He said three motorcycles were recovered from the fleeing hoodlums, and that the troops had continued with their manhunt for them. Rihanna intruder told cops he was at her house just to have sex with her

                                   A man was tased and arrested after he broke into Rihanna's house on Wednesday. After his arrest, the man told cops he was only there to have sex with her, not to steal or harm her. Eduardo Leon, 26, disabled Rihanna's alarm system and entered into her house, where he stayed at least an entire day. He spent Wednesday night at Rihanna's house before he was arrested on Thursday morning after Rihanna's assistant found him inside her L.A. area house. Man shot by his dog while they were playing

A man says his dog inadvertently shot him while they were playing at his home on Wednesday. 51-year-old Richard Remme, of Fort Dodge in Iowa, told police he was playing with his dog, Balew, on the couch and threw the dog off his lap. The dog quickly bounded back up and it is believed that he must have disabled the safety on the gun in Richard's belly band and stepped on the trigger. The gun fired, striking one of Richard's legs. "It has a trigger safety as well as a thumb safety, and he managed to hit both of them, and it discharged and went into my leg, did no major damage to anything," Richard said. Richard immediately called for an ambulance and he was treated at a hospital and released later that day. Richard told The Messenger newspaper that Balew lay down beside him and cried after shooting him. Three fake crude oil sellers arrested for duping a foreigner to the tune of N20m

                               Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested three fake crude oil sellers for allegedly defrauding a Ghanaian a sum of N20millon( Twenty Million Naira only). The suspects: Otuma Firstborn, Stephen Okonkwo and Aniekan Udoh, were arrested in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.  Troubles came for them when a petitioner, Solomon Lamptey, a Ghanaian, accused them of presenting themselves as genuine crude oil sellers from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC. Lamptey allegedly came to Nigeria in November 2017 seeking authentic suppliers of crude oil. 15-year-old girl stabs boy, 14, during altercation in Bayelsa

A 15-year- old girl allegedly stabbed a 14-year-old Boy on the face in Bayelsa State. It was gathered that the incident happened in Anyama-Ijaw community in Southern-Ijaw Local Government Area of the state. According to reports, the girl, said to be a younger sister of a bread seller, stabbed the boy during an altercation. The matter has been reported to police station for investigation. Abuja-based businessman beaten to death by unknown assailants in Enugu

An Abuja-based businessman was beaten to death by unknown assailants in Enugu. The deceased, Chinedu Nzegwu popularly known as Obroshoo by friends, was attacked by the assailants few days before his return to Abuja. They reportedly hit him with a stick on the head leaving him for dead. Late Nzegwu, a Pure and Industrial Chemistry graduate of the University of Port Harcourt,  is a former student of Dennis Memorial Grammar School DMGS, Onitsha, Anambra State. His friends and family members have taken to Facebook to mourn his tragic death. One of them Nwachi Viktor, wrote: "Murdered in cold blood in Enugu by fellow ndi igbo. Another young and hardworking man from Onitsha.He was my junior in Dennis Memorial Grammar school Onitsha. Trying to understand why they had to beat him to death,he was never a thief and came from a good home. Rest in peace Chinedu Nzegwu. No one is safe in Nigeria!"

SCDC arrests illegal private guards in Osun State

The PGC and PR Unite of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Osun state Command on Friday, went on "Operation Flush out illegal Private Guards" in the state. Many private guards were arrested and sensitisation was made in some private institutions visited.

South Africa police probe “extremism” element in mosque attack

                            South Africa’s elite police unit has taken over the investigation of a mosque attack near Durban which killed one person because “extremism” is suspected as a possible motive, an official said on Friday. Africa’s most industrialised country is racked by violent crime and social strife rooted in poverty and glaring income disparities but is seldom associated with the Islamist militancy seen in other parts of the continent. Mum, her four autistic children, and two others found dead following mass shooting at a home in Australia

                      Four children and three adults were found with gunshot wounds at a home in Osmington, near the town of Margaret River in Australia's southwest. Katrina Miles Cockman and her four autistic kids aged 8 to 13 are among seven found dead at a remote farmhouse in Australia this morning. Two other adults were found dead outside the building, but they are yet to be identified. Police found the bodies with gunshot wounds at the property owned by Katrina's parents, Cynda Miles and Peter Miles, in Osmington.                  The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Lagos Zonal office, on Thursday, May 10, 2018, arraigned one Chinonso Samuel Ofoegbu before Justice Babs Kuewumi sitting at the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos on a one-count charge bordering on failure to declare the sums of $52,201,000(Fifty-two Thousand US Dollars) and £320(Three Hundred and Twenty Pounds) found on him by officers of the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA. The suspect, who was apprehended at the Seme Border in the Badagry Local Government Area of Lagos State, was subsequently handed over to the EFCC for further investigation and prosecution. African man shot twice in Thailand while returning from gym

                          CCTV from outside a housing estate in Chantaburi, Thailand's east showed the moment when an African man was shot at by the driver of a car on Friday morning. As Dabu, 42, a gem trader was returning to his rented house when a White Yaris made a move towards him. The car window was lowered and Sanoo a gun was fired at the victim. He was hit twice, in the right ribs and on the upper left arm. But the bullets only left a graze and a little blood. The car sped off in the direction of Chantaburi city. Father who raped his 19-year-old daughter before she took own life is jailed for nine years thanks to her evidence from beyond the grave

                                  A father has been jailed for nine years for raping his daughter, leading her to commit suicide. He was convicted thanks to an evidence the teenager gave to police before taking her life. James Elder held down and abused Jamie-Leigh Craig at his flat in Glasgow's Parkhead in September 2016 and she was found dead three months later at her home in the city's Southside. Shortly after the rape, the 19-year-old spoke to police. She also tearfully told her mother what happened before she took her life. Florida police officer saves unresponsive 3-months-old boy's life

                     A Florida police officer, Deputy Jeremie Nix has been hailed as a hero after he helped save the life of a 3 months old boy. Deputy Nix was on his way home after his shift when a woman flagged him down and told him her baby was unresponsive. For several minutes, he performed "several life-saving measures on the child" but didn't see any improvement "I'm not waiting on medics ... I'm headed to the emergency room with the baby," he told a dispatcher Wednesday. He then rushed the baby to the emergency room in his car where the doctors promptly saved his life. Authorities respond to multiple reports of a man with a gun at Highland high school in Palmdale, California; suspect in custody

A suspect is in custody after authorities responded to multiple reports of a man with a gun shooting in a high school in Southern California today. Authorities were called to Highland High School in Palmdale at about 7:05 a.m. this morning, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy Charles Moore. There had been reports of shots being fired in the school. The suspect, a male, was apprehended near a Vons grocery store in Palmdale, the Los Angeles County fire official said. Details about whether anyone was injured weren't immediately available. Ricky Munoz, 23, says he dropped his two younger brothers and a friend off at the high school around that time.
