UAC building in Lagos Island is currently on fire

                                          The UAC building in Lagos Island is currently on fire and efforts are being made to put it under control. A Twitter user who works in the building has been giving a minute-by-minute report of what's going on. Glasses have been shattered in the fire and properties destroyed. Staff have been evacuated and can be seen standing downstairs watching the building burn. The fire service has arrived and is doing all they can to put off the fire, an eyewitness revealed.

Gunmen abduct APC’s Edo House of Assembly candidate

                                The All Progressives Congress candidate for the Edo State House of Assembly, Michael Ohio-Ezomon, has been abducted by unknown gunmen from his house at Eme-Ora, Owan West Local Government Area of the state. Confirming the incident, the state police commissioner, Hakeem Odumosu, said Ohio-Ezomon was asleep in his home when the gunmen forced their way in and abducted him at about 1am today. His orderly was killed during a fire exchange with the gunmen.  The police boss said no contact had been established with the gunmen. Meanwhile, the body of the orderly has been deposited in a mortuary in the area.

Five people die in Florida after 19th mass shooting of 2019

Its just a couple of weeks into the New Year and there's already been 19 mass shootings in the United States. On Wednesday, five people were murdered after a gunman took hostages in a Florida bank, forced them to the floor and began shooting, authorities said.   Sebring Police Chief Karl Hoglund and Highlands County Sheriff Paul Blackman briefed reporters but declined to elaborate on the motive for the shooting, which took place around noon at the SunTrust bank in Sebring, about 94 miles southeast of Tampa. The suspect was identified by Hoglund as Zephen Xaver, 21, a Sebring resident. A photo published by the Highlands News-Sun shows police taking a handcuffed white male, wearing a T-shirt and khaki shorts, from the scene. "It's been a tragic day in our community. South African government provisionally withdraws corruption charges against Zuma's son, Duduzane

                                   South Africa’s National Prosecuting Authority has withdrawn corruption charges against former  President Jacob Zuma ’s son  Duduzane  because the allegations against him are being handled in another inquiry. The case was due to be heard in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Thursday. Duduzane is accused of helping to organize a meeting with Mcebisi Jonas, then deputy finance minister, in which a member of the Gupta family, who are friends with the Zumas, allegedly offered him the post of finance minister in exchange for a bribe.   Jonas has testified at the Zondo Commission of Inquiry, whose investigations into state corruption include the Guptas allegedly using their relationship with Jacob Zuma to influence government appointments. Thai, Malaysian Police bust Nigerian online romance scam gang; arrest seven men and seven women

Suspect Thai police and their Malaysian counterparts have busted a Nigerian gang operating online romance scams, the same gang that fled Thailand a year ago to set up in Kuala Lumpur. Thai immigration police head Maj-Gen Surachate Hakparn, in his capacity as deputy director of the Thailand's Action Taskforce for Information Technology Crime Suppression (TACTICS), on Wednesday led his team to join with Malaysian economic crime busters to search seven locations in Kuala Lumpur. At the same time, Thai police raided three locations in Thailand that allegedly had links to the gang. The operation in Kuala Lumpur led to the arrest of seven Nigerians, all of whom were wanted for alleged fraud in Thailand, and seven female Thai accomplices. French Oscar and Grammy winning composer Michel Legrand dies at 86

                          French composer Michel Legrand, who won three Oscars during a career spanning more than half a century, has died aged 86. Legrand first won an Academy Award in 1969 for the song The Windmills of Your Mind from the film The Thomas Crown Affair. He followed that with Oscars for his music for Summer of ’42 in 1972 and for Yentl in 1984. He also won five Grammys.   Legrand, who had been scheduled to hold concerts in Paris in April, died during the night, his spokesman told Agence France-Presse on Saturday. He first began working as an accompanist and arranger in the 1960s. During his career he worked with Miles Davis, Ray Charles, Orson Welles, Jean Cocteau, Frank Sinatra and Edith Piaf. How Buhari is frustrating my possible reinstatement – ‘Unjustly’ dismissed soldier

A controversially dismissed soldier on Wednesday told the National Industrial Court that he wrote to President Muhammadu Buhari about his illegal dismissal, without receiving a response for over two years. The soldier, Abdulfatah Mohammed, was responding to questions put forward by Jibrin Okutepa, a senior lawyer representing the Nigerian Army during a cross-examination at the court presided over by a judge, R B Haastrub. Mr Mohammed and 38 other soldiers were  dismissed  by the army for controversial reasons in 2016. The officers were neither warned ahead of their sack, nor made to face any panel as required by the Nigerian Army’s guiding rules. Employment Scam: EFCC Opposes Bail of Fraudster

Suspect The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has opposed the bail granted to an alleged fraudster, Emeka Anaga, who is standing trial before Justice Phoebe Ayua of a Federal High Court, Abakaliki, on a six-count charge bordering on employment scam. Anaga is also facing armed robbery charges before Justice Olughu Nnachi in addition, to being investigated on seperate allegations of forgery and obtaining money by false prete nce. Arguing against the bail granted Anaga, counsel for the EFCC, Rotimi Ajobiewe, on January 22, 2019 told the court that since his arraignment on November 29, 2018, the defendant has “not only consistently threatened EFCC witnesses who are to give evidence in his ongoing trial at the Federal High Court, but was found to have been walking freely in the streets of Abakaliki despite being charged for armed robbery”. Nigerian Army claims it sacked colonel for being partisan

Nigerian Army on duty After submitting it dismissed an officer for “ failing to renew his contract ,” the Nigerian Army on Friday indicated it may have sacked the officer and 38 others for  alleged electoral partisanship,  among other allegations. The affected officer, Abdulfatah Mohammed, was controversially dismissed in 2016 alongside others, including military generals without facing any panel as required by law. The army had  submitted   during repeated hearings in court that it sacked the officers for failing to renew their contracts after 18 years of service. The officers, who have instituted various actions against their dismissal, have however argued that the armed forces guiding rules do not oblige them to make any such application, once they have been employed. NDLEA busts fake drug factory in #Abia, seizes 400kg of Diazepam

A secret fake drug factory in Abia state, has been uncovered by the operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), who recovered 400kilograms of Diazepam and arrested four suspects.  Dailytrust reports that the factory is located along Aba/Port Harcourt expressway, in Aba.  The Diazepam was in both tablets and powdery form when NDLEA officials invaded the premises where they also seized the dilatants.  The active ingredients (Diazepam) with diluents such as binders and fillers like maize – starch/sugar, plus manganese stearate and blue colour were compressed into mould and set into tablets for human consumption.  NDLEA state Commander, Mr Akingbade Bamidele, said the suspects branded their tablets as Diazepam, which they claimed to be produced in India, thus deceiving members of the public.  According to the Commander, Diazepam is a controlled drug that could only be produced under a strict and monitored environment, as it could result to a...

Man lures little boy with N500 to bring his mom’s panties

A man has been handed over to the police for allegedly luring a little boy with N500 to bring his mom’s underpants. The incident happened around 8:04am on Saturday, in Ondo. It was gathered that the little boy informed his mom about the man’s offer and some boys were mobilized to nab him. The suspect was, thereafter, mercilessly beaten before being handed over to the police.

Libya returnees nabbed while trafficking people back to Libya .

Two suspected human traffickers who recently voluntarily returned to Nigeria from Libya, have been arrested at a border crossing in Katsina State, while trafficking four victims to Libya. The suspects are Omoseyin Solomon Rotimi, 43, from Ondo State, and Omoniyi Olowoporoku, 31, from Edo State. They are both beneficiaries of the ongoing Federal Government evacuation of Nigerians living in Libya. . The rescued victims are, Shedrack Agumadu, Aishat Agbajelola (also a returnee), Akinbiyi Ashabi and Gracious Aghafekokhian. . Police rescue snitch who caused the murder of a lady in Lagos

A man was, this morning, snatched from the jaws of death by the police in Idimu, Lagos State. It was gathered that the man, identified as Durore, was instrumental to the murder of a lady identified as Amuda, yesterday. Trouble started in December, 27, 2018, after a clash between Egbe and Idimu youth, during a carnival in Egbe. The crisis was said to have been carried over to a political rally, yesterday, in Egbe. Durore, who was once a resident of Idimu, allegedly snitched on Amuda, also from Idimu, by pointing her to some Egbe youth. Amuda was later accosted and stabbed to death, a move which angered Idimu youth who then traced Durore to Egan, whisked him to Idimu, where he was about to be set ablaze but for the intervention of the police.

                      A man has been arrested for allegedly raping his 13-year-old stepdaughter in Akwa Ibom state. Joseph Sunday Essien, 45, is accused of sexually abusing Patience Edet Edem on 4 different occasions. The girl reported to her mother but the woman didn't believe the child. She only believed when she caught him in the act. The mother, who has two children for the suspect, reported her husband to the police after making the shocking discovery. The State Police Commissioner, Musa Kimo, while parading the suspect said that the father carried out the last heinous act on January 13, 2019. The mother of the victim, who married the suspect after the death of her former husband - the father of the victim - said that her recent husband left her in their bedroom on the day of the final abuse and snuck into the girl's room to rape her. A pilot who has been amongst those searching for the missing plane carrying footballer Emiliano Sala has said there is ‘no chance’ of finding the footballer or the pilot of the plane alive. The search for the missing plane carrying Sala resumed Thursday morning after the search was suspended on Wednesday in the English Channel. Mike Tidd, from Channel Islands Air Search, said this afternoon: The area has been very well covered, there is absolutely no chance of finding anybody alive now, the only thing that we might be able to do would be to pinpoint where the aircraft went in, but I think the radar trace is going to be the best opportunity of doing that. Sala and pilot David Ibbotson were on board the Piper PA-46 Malibu plane when it disappeared from radar en route from Nantes in France to Cardiff on Monday evening. Rescue workers looking for the missing plane have found ‘no trace’ of the aircraft or its occupants, Guernsey Police said.

Man Bags One Year Jail Term for ATM Fraud

                                  The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC Gombe Zonal Office, has secured the conviction of one Isah Amir Muhammad for a one-count charge bordering on stealing. Amir was arraigned on January 23, 2019 before Justice Abubakar Jauro of the Gombe State High Court, for defrauding one Naomi Ezekiel. Ezekiel, who petitioned the EFCC, alleged that sometime in March 2018, at an ATM point belonging to a branch of First Bank Nigeria Plc in Gombe, Amir had volunteered to assist her, when unknown to her, he swapped her ATM card for another, and used it to transfer N293, 000 from her account to his.                                     A man has sued Bugema University, Luweero District, Kampala, for banning all female students from wearing dresses above the knee, jewelry, lipstick, sleeveless and open tops, coloured nails, trouser, within the school premises. In the suit before the High Court, the petitioner, Mr Ronald Bwire, claims that on December 12, 2018, the University issued a notice banning female students from wearing miniskirts, ear rings, necklaces, bangles, sleeveless and open tops, coloured nails, lipsticks, trousers and dresses that stop above the knee. Bugema University announced the ban in a notice dated December 12, 2018. “No student should come back with the above mentioned next semester. Tragedy as University of Benin Teaching Hospital doctor found dead in hotel

A medical doctor at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital UBTH, Dr Ogbeide, was found dead in a hotel room in the state recently. According to the police, Ogbeide had checked into a hotel in the state on Saturday January 19th and by Sunday January 20th, he was found dead. His family members were not able to reach him throughout Saturday. The police arrived the hotel he checked into on Sunday and after repeated knocks on the door without a response, the door was forced open and he was found dead with his face down on the bed. A bottle of soft drink was found by his side. The police believe he may have committed suicide or may have been poisoned. Some of his colleagues are however of the opinion that his death is cult related. It is alleged that he was whisked away and taken to the hotel to be killed. Alleged N1.35bn Fraud: EFCC Presents More Witnesses Against Ex-Jigawa Gov, Lamido
