Employment Scam: EFCC Opposes Bail of Fraudster

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has opposed the bail granted to an alleged fraudster, Emeka Anaga, who is standing trial before Justice Phoebe Ayua of a Federal High Court, Abakaliki, on a six-count charge bordering on employment scam.
Anaga is also facing armed robbery charges before Justice Olughu Nnachi in addition, to being investigated on seperate allegations of forgery and obtaining money by false pretence.
Arguing against the bail granted Anaga, counsel for the EFCC, Rotimi Ajobiewe, on January 22, 2019 told the court that since his arraignment on November 29, 2018, the defendant has “not only consistently threatened EFCC witnesses who are to give evidence in his ongoing trial at the Federal High Court, but was found to have been walking freely in the streets of Abakaliki despite being charged for armed robbery”.
Ajobiewe also decried the very lenient terms of bail granted the defendant and reminded the Court that “despite the magistrate’s order for Anaga to be remanded in prison custody at Abakaliki Prison, pending the assignment of his case to a high court, he mysteriously vanished from prison until his arrest for the present offence”.
The judge had earlier granted Anaga bail in the sum of N800, 000 and one surety in like sum who must either be in federal or state civil service and not less than level 8 or an owner of a landed property within the jurisdiction of the court.
The case has been adjourned to February 20, 2019 for trial.

Bandits struck in Zamfara abduct treasurer’s three children, kill neigbour

  Gunmen suspected to be bandits abducted three children of Zamfara State Sub-treasurer, Alhaji Yusuf Marafa, and shot dead his neighbour in Nahuche ward, Bungudu Local Government Area of the State.   Sources who spoke to Vanguard on Thursday, September 10, identified the kidnapped children as Mansur Yusuf, Sa ’adu Yusuf and Anas Yusuf and the neighbour, Malam Kamalu Nahuche. According to one indigene of the area who identified himself as Alhaji Dahiru, the kidnappers, who were on many motorcycles, drove into the community and went straight to the sub – treasurer’s house, where they whisked away the three children. The Katsina State Police Command have arrested one Abubakar Sule, 23, over attempted murder of his girlfriend, Aisha Dikko. It was gathered that Sule had tricked Aisha, 21, into a bush at Tamawa village in the Kurfi Local Government Area of the state, allegedly slashed her throat with a knife and fled believing she was dead. Fortunately, a Good Samaritan found the victim and rushed her to the General Hospital , Kurfi, where she is currently recuperating. Confirming the incident  on Saturday , the state Commissioner of Police, Beseng Gwana, said that Sule would be charged to court soon.
