Court Jails Three Over N12. 5 Million Fraud

                                                      The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, today, December 13, 2018 secured three convictions at the Federal High Court sitting in Benin City, Edo State. One of those convicted is Oluwalusi Kikelomo . She was arraigned before Justice M. G. Umar on a one count charge of stealing and obtaining by false pretence. Upon her arraignment, Mrs. Oluwalusi pleaded guilty to the charge. And based on a plea bargain arrangement betwee n the prosecution counsel and the defence counsel she was convicted and sentenced to six months imprisonment. All assets recovered from her as proceeds of crime are to be forfeited to the victim.                                                      The charge against her reads: “That you, Oluwalusi Kikelomo, while being a branch Manager in O- FAGE Enterprise Nigeria Ltd, between February 2017 and October 2018 in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State within the jurisdiction of this honourable court,

Notorious cultists, armed robbers arrested in Bayelsa State

                          The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested two suspected cultists, robbers and recovered firearms. Spokesperson for the commad, DSP Asinim Butswat, who confirmed the arrest on Friday, said the suspects were nabbed during a Stop and Search Operations embarked on by operatives  in Yenagoa metropolis. Policemen on Friday afternoon, arrested a notorious Icelanders cultist, Ayibamiebi David, 20,  AKA Desperado in a tricycle along Ekeki Road, Yenagoa. The suspect, a native of Opuama Community, Southern Ijaw LGA, he was arrested in possession of a locally made pistol. In a similar development, on Thursday, 13 December 13, at about 1Pm,  the Surveillance team of the Command Monitoring unit, acted on a tip-off and arrested one James Oweifa, 22,  AKA Grade, a native of Agbere Community, Sagbama LGA. The suspect, also a notorious Icelanders cultist was arrested in possession of a locally made revolver pistol with five rounds of 9mm live ammunition

Two African women arrested in Thailand for prostitution

                                                  Immigration police in Thailand has arrested two African women accused of working as prostitutes. Glory Nasaazi, 39, and Shamim Nai’ga, 33, said to be from Uganda, were taken into custody on Walking Street in Pattaya. According to Pattaya Mail, other African women standing nearby managed to escape during the raid. The arrested women were processed for deportation.

6-week-old baby miraculously survives Ebola in Congo

                                   A six-week-old child simply called baby Benedicte has survived deadly Ebola outbreak in Congo. The six-week-old infant has been dubbed “a miracle’’ by Congo’s Ministry of Health for surviving Ebola which she caught as a newborn. “The little girl is called Benedicte and she was born on Oct. 31, so she’s about one and a half months old,’’ Jessica Ilunga, a spokesperson for the ministry said on Friday. Sadly, Benedicte’s mother died during childbirth while also infected with Ebola which has so far killed more than 300 people in eastern Congo. Benedicte received 24-hour care throughout her hospitalisation and is the youngest person to recover from the virus in this outbreak, the ministry said. She is now home with her father and aunt.

Man who forged Okonjo Iweala's signature bags 4-years in jail

Raymond Azuka, who was prosecuted by EFCC for forging a reference letter purportedly signed by former minister of finance, Okonjo-Iweala, in order to gain employment at the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting, NSPM as Security Assistant 1A, has been sentenced to four years in prison. Justice M.B. Idris of a Federal Capital Territory, FCT High Court, Nyanya, had, on November 14, 2018, found him guilty of two counts of forgery, which he committed between May 2013 and August 2014. Justice Idris held that the prosecution proved the counts beyond every reasonable doubt and so sentenced him to four years on each of the counts to run concurrently.

Banker arrested for defrauding a Chinese national to the tune of £79,000

                                         banker and Account Officer with Access Bank, Ojo Adefemi Adedoyin, who allegedly connived with one Favour Oriafoh, 30, to defraud a Hong Kong national, Xu Yue of £79,000 (Seventy Nine Thousand Pounds) has been arrested by EFCC. They were arrested by operatives of the Uyo Zonal Office of the Commission, following investigation into a petition received from the Hong Kong Police Force, that the young lady was a victim of romance scam traced to Nigeria. Admitting to the crime, Oriafoh who goes by the con name, Terry Mac, confessed that he opened a FaceBook account in the name, just to defraud whoever falls prey to his baits. “She had fallen in love with me as Terry Mac, a football agent,” he said.                                    Sani Mohammed, a member of a 5-man kidnap gang arrested by operatives of the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team, has disclosed that they would have made about N500 million from kidnapping wealthy victims in Abuja, and Kaduna, this December, had they not been arrested. According to Dailytrust, Mohammed was arrested alongside three others from their base in Enugu State. Their arrest is sequel to the purported plan for the gang to kidnap one an Abuja-based businessman, Alhaji Ulere. Those arrested along with Sani are: Babangida Garba, Dogo Ibrahim, and Ibrahim Haruna. Nigerian Army buries fallen heroes who died during the clash with Boko Haram terrorists in Metele

                           Nigerian Army has buried 19 of its 23 troops killed in the Metele attack by Boko Haram, last month. Lt. Colonel Ibrahim Sakaba and 22 soldiers of 157 Task Force Battalion, Metele, Abadam Local Government Area, Borno State, who died in the gun-battle against Boko Haram on November 18 were buried on Friday in a solemn military ceremony at Army Cantonment Cemetery, Maiduguri. Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, said the troops paid the supreme price in the battle to keep the Northeast region safe. Buratai, who was represented by the army’s Chief of Training and Operations, Maj. Trial of Justice Ajumogobia’s stalled as judge collapses In court

                                    The trial of Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia was stalled at the Lagos High Court Sitting in Ikeja on Friday as the judge slumped before proceedings could commence. According to reports, the incident caused the court to adjourn further proceedings till January 26, 2019 while lawyers and family members rushed to the aid of the judge and it was gathered that she was later rushed to a hospital after she was revived. Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia and her co-defendant who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Godwin Obla, were dragged before the court by the economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Residents issue 21-day ultimatum to FG over Apapa gridlock

                                  The Apapa Government Reserved Area Residents Association has given the Federal Government a 21-day ultimatum to clear all bridges and roads in the area of trucks to ease movement. The residents on Friday told journalists that unless urgent steps were taken to resolve the traffic problems, they would mobilise and shut down the area completely. White lady tracks down Ghanaian yahoo boy, gets him arrested for defrauding her of over 20,000 euros

Newborn baby dies in hospital a month after being attacked by his parents' dogs

                                    A newborn baby boy has died one month after he was mauled by his parents' dogs. Reuben McNulty was just one month old when he was attacked in the early hours of Sunday, November 18 at the family's home in the village of Yaxley, near Peterborough in Cambridgeshire, England. His parents' Staffordshire Bull Terriers named Fizzy and Dotty both attacked him. He died in the hospital om Thursday, almost 4 weeks after the dog attack. The boy's parents Dan McNulty, 31, and Amy Litchfield, 28, were arrested on suspicion of child neglect and released on bail. Detectives say the baby's death is not being treated as suspicious. The dogs have since been put down.

Car crashes into Nigerian mosque, kills two children

                          A J5 Peugeot has killed two three -year-old children after crashing into a mosque in Plateau state. The victims were participating in the Muslims’ Friday Juma’at prayers at the Yelwa- Shendam Central Mosque, in Shendam Local Government Area of the state. Army buries 19 soldiers killed by insurgents in Borno

                             The Nigerian Army on Friday buried 19 soldiers among those who lost their lives in an attack by Boko Haram insurgents at Metele, Guzamala Local Government Area, Borno. 23 soldiers were killed and 31 others wounded when the insurgents attacked 157 Task Force Battalion, Metele, on Nov. 18. The fallen heroes, who were laid to rest at the Military Cemetery, Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, were I.A. Sakaba, a lieutenant colonel, and 18 soldiers. Muslim and Christian Chaplains officiated at the burial. The Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, a lieutenant general, described the incident as tragic, noting that the soldiers sacrificed their lives in defence of the nation’s territorial integrity.                             A make-up artist is facing murder charges after she allegedly covered up two pregnancies then killed the babies when they were born by throwing them away in the trash. Customs intercepts contraband worth N157 million in Bauchi

                                    The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Federal Operations Unit (F.O.U.) Zone D, Bauchi, has seized contraband worth N156. 61 million in 2018. ‎The Controller F.O.U. Zone D, Peters Olugboyega, made the disclosure at a news conference in Bauchi on Thursday. According to him, this is an increase of N55 million compared to the seizures made in 2017. ‎ He noted that from January to December 2018, the Unit made seizures ranging from smuggled foreign rice, foreign soap and second-hand clothes. According to him, other seizures are spaghetti and hard drugs.                                            A Plateau State High Court sitting in Jos on Thursday sentenced a 24-year-old man, Binfa Lamde, to death by hanging for killing his stepmother. Justice A. I. Ashoms, who handed down the judgment, declared that the prosecution had proven beyond reasonable doubt that Mr Lamde killed the woman. “Going by the facts before this court, you, Binfa Lamde, mercilessly took the life of your stepmother, Mrs. Kum Zwade, in cold blood. “This sentence is mandatory; the law states that any person convicted of murder shall be punished with death by hanging. “The sentence of this court upon you is that you will be hanged until you are dead,’’ Mr Ashoms declared.                                         Two persons were reportedly killed, while others sustained various degrees of injuries in a violent clash between two rival cult groups in a supremacy battle at Baiyeku, Ikorodu area of Lagos State. Members of the cult groups, Aiye and Eiye confraternities, were said to have engaged each other in a fierce battle at Awobo and Shelewu areas of Igbogbo-Baiyeku, Ikorodu. Widow jumps into her husband's grave to protest after his alleged murderer is released from police custody

                                         A widow staged a protest in her husband’s grave on Thursday at Wanyororo cemetery in Bahati, Nakuru County, Kenya, after a suspect linked to his murder was allegedly released from police custody. The deceased, 33 year-old Edward Mwangi was was found murdered in a farm in Wanyororo B area in Bahati after being stabbed eight times on December 3, 2018. The main suspect is said to have surrendered himself to the police and also presented a knife he used to kill the deceased. Mr Mwangi’s family claims the suspect was released the same day. Read below:    "This is Hafsat Umar, her father (Goni Umara Madu) was killed by insurgents a few years ago, on his way to his night shift as a security guard at PZ, located near Ngarnan. She had measles when she was about three, and related or not, lost the use of her lower limbs ever since. Recently, I posted Ahmed Suleimans situation, and mentioned there were others. I was going to make a separate appeal for her and the others, but God so kind, the Vice Principal who's number I gave out on the initial post, called me and said a good Samaritan, who wished to remain anonymous, had called, enquired, and sent him a donation for Ahmeds chair. We managed to get two chairs, and this morning, Ahmed and Hafsat were both delighted and grateful for their new found mobility. Court orders Jacob Zuma to refund over $1m to the South African government as legal fees which was expended on him

                            A court has ruled that South Africa's former President Jacob Zuma must pay back the money provided for his legal fees. It is estimated that the state has paid between $1m (£792,000) and $2.2m in legal costs for him. Zuma has been fighting multiple allegations of corruption for more than a decade and has incurred millions of dollars in legal fees. The court's decision marks the end of a poor year for Zuma, who was forced out of office in February. His successor, Cyril Ramaphosa , has been working to restore public confidence in the country's prosecution service. Ramaphosa recently admitted that an agreement between Zuma and former President Thabo Mbeki had formed the basis of the decision to continue paying Zuma's legal fees, more than a decade ago.
