Police place N30m bounty on notorious kidnap kingpin, Evans

LAGOS—Police in Lagos, yesterday, placed a N30 million bounty on the head of wanted notorious kidnapper, identified simply as Evans. The state’s Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, told newsmen yesterday, “we are encouraging Nigerians to blow the whistle on this kidnapper. “Whoever blows the whistle that will lead to his arrest will get a N30 million reward, as stated by the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.” Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command had traced the wanted kidnapper to his hideout at Igando area of Lagos last Friday, but he fled before their arrival, abandoning a catchment of arms. The recovered arms included four AK-47 riffles; two automatic pistols; four magazines loaded with 60 rounds of ammunitions each; 1,272 ammunition, 59 AK-47 ammunition; a police bullet-proof vest; a Toyota Hiace bus, suspected to be the gang’s operational vehicle, and a motorcycle. Breaking: Official: Ambode Bans VIOs Permanently From All Roads, Bans FRSC From State Roads

 State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode on Tuesday announced a permanent ban on the State Vehicles Inspection Officers, VIOs from operating in all Lagos roads. The governor also ban the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, from operating on state roads in the metropolis, except on federal Highways.

The Nigerian Army says it has arrested a top Boko Haram commander notorious for terror activities in Yobe State and environs. A statement signed by Army spokesman, Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman revealed that troops stationed at Forward Operation Base, Potiskum arrested the notorious Boko Haram commander in Yobe state. The suspect, a 35-year-old man called Abubaka Adamu, popularly known as ‘Pepper’ was arrested around New Prison area, Potiskum, Potiskum local government area, Yobe state. According to the statement, Adamu was arrested on Sunday, May 14 by the Troops of 233 Battalion, 27 Task Force Brigade, of the Nigerian army, assisted by local vigilantes. Preliminary investigation shows that the suspected terrorist hailed from Yerimara village, Potiskum LGA and that he has participated in carrying out attacks and other terrorists activities in the north east. FRSC Takes Road Safety Campaign To Churches

The Plateau Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has taken its sensitisation of motorists on safety measures to Churches and other worship centres in the state. The campaign kicked off on Sunday at the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), Gigiring, Jos, with the Sector Commander, Mrs Pat Emeordi, declaring that the initiative was aimed at reducing road traffic crashes. “Our visit to this Church today (Sunday) is to commemorate the 4th UN Global Safety Week. “The theme for this year’s UN Safety Week is `Managing Speed’; we are focusing on that and want to urge all motorists to obey speed limits,” she said. How victim of Evan’s 1m Euro kidnap scheme escaped

LAGOS—The police in Lagos, weekend, arrested a pharmacist over his suspected involvement in the kidnap of his boss, Donatus Duru, the owner of a multi-national pharmaceutical company at Ilupeju area of Lagos State.  The businessman was abducted close to his office in Ilupeju on February 14 and the abductors demanded one million Euro (N500 million) for his release. The family later paid N150 million, but the kidnappers reportedly demanded for the full payment or they would kill him.  The suspect reportedly conspired with other members of his gang, led by their dreaded kingpin, Evans, to abduct his boss, who was kept in their hideout at Igando area of the state.
