Police arrests 7-suspects selling new Naira notes

Selling newly minted naira notes is an offence that attracts six months imprisonment and seven suspects are now in police net for trading and hawking newly minted naira notes in Onitsha, Anambra state. According to the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Garba Umar, the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has raised alarm over the illegal activity going on for a while now unchecked and calls for swift action to arrest the culprits who even brazenly display them in public as a product. Garba while addressing the press over the matter cites sections 20 and 21 of the CBN Act that makes it an offence for anyone to sell or hawk naira or coin issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria, cautions citizens to desist from abusing the naira and says those arrested will be prosecuted. Egypt hangs 15 militants convicted of 2013 Sinai attacks

Egypt has hanged 15 militants who were convicted of carrying out attacks on security forces in the Sinai Peninsula in 2013, authorities say. The executions were carried out on Tuesday at two prisons in the north of the country, where the men were held.   They were convicted of killing soldiers, carrying out assassinations, and destroying military vehicles. It was the first mass execution in the country since six jihadists were hanged in 2015. Sinai has in recent years been beset by an insurgency, with jihadist groups including so-called Islamic State (IS) attacking targets including army, police and judges. The Katsina State Police Command have arrested one Abubakar Sule, 23, over attempted murder of his girlfriend, Aisha Dikko. It was gathered that Sule had tricked Aisha, 21, into a bush at Tamawa village in the Kurfi Local Government Area of the state, allegedly slashed her throat with a knife and fled believing she was dead. Fortunately, a Good Samaritan found the victim and rushed her to the General Hospital , Kurfi, where she is currently recuperating. Confirming the incident  on Saturday , the state Commissioner of Police, Beseng Gwana, said that Sule would be charged to court soon. "The Suspect abandoned the lady in the bush thinking that she was dead but the victim was later found by a Good Samaritan and was rushed to the General Hospital, Kurfi," said Gwana. 11 women conveying a bride die in Kano auto crash - FRSC

Today, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kano state confirmed that 11 women died in a ghastly auto crash in Kano metropolis on Saturday night.  FRSC Public Relations Officer, Mr Kabir Ibrahim-Daura told newsmen in Kano that the incident occurred  around 8.30 p.m. at the old tollgate near Sa’adatu Abubakar Rimi College of Education.    According to him, the women were conveying a bride from Unguwa Uku to Yan’lemu area when the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit the tollgate. He said eight women died on the spot while the remaining three died at the hospital. “Eight persons died on the spot because the vehicle after hitting the tollgate it divided into two instantly, Daura said. He said three other women and the male driver were still at the hospital receiving medical attention. The FRSC spokesman attributed the accident to over spending and urged other motorists to drive with utmost care by obeying all the traffic rules and regulations.

Armed robber reports himself to police after he mistakenly killed his partner

On 22 December, 2017, at about 8 pm, a gang of two armed robbers attacked one Francis Chibueze of Bakery Road, Azikoro Village, Yenegoa, Bayelsa State. Luck ran against the gang as one of the robbers mistakenly shot and killed his partner. The victim Francis Chibueze escaped unhurt. The deceased armed robber was identified as Thankgod Smith ‘m’ 25 years, and his partner who shot him is Peter Napoleon ‘m’ 23 years. Policemen swung into action, and the suspect in hiding panicked and came to the Azikoro Police Station on 23 December, 2017 on his own volition and confessed to the armed robbery and killing his gang member. . He led Police Detectives to an uncompleted building in Bakery Road, Azikoro Village, where the gun was recovered.

A man pretending to be mentally ill was reportedly caught with N100m cheque, ATM cards, and condoms among other items in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital. Punch reported that the middle-aged man whose name could not be ascertained, as of the time of filing this report, was recently nabbed near the state Ministry of Environment and Forestry along the Ahmadu Bello Way in Ilorin. Sources revealed when he was searched, a cheque of N100m, pictures he allegedly took with top politicians in Nigeria, four automated teller machine cards, male and female condoms, Valium injections and Infinix Hot 5 phone were found in his possession. The insiders also added that the 'mentally-ill' man, who would have been lynched by a mob, was rescued by another man at the scene. When Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi, he said he came across the photo of the fake 'mentally-ill' man circulating the internet but couldn't authoritatively confirm.

A 17-year-old in northern Virginia is facing two counts of murder for allegedly killing his girlfriend's parents after the couple tried to get their daughter to stop dating him because of his suspected neo-Nazi views. According to police and family members who spoke to the media, the couple, Scott and Buckley Kuhn-Fricker, were shot in their home by the teenager, who then shot himself.                             Today, drug law enforcers in Senegal invited the press to watch 4.5 tonnes of cannabis being burnt and social media is asking if observers inhaled the smoke and get stoned themselves? Police chiefs' anger at YouTube gangster threat videos where members boast about shootings.

Footage has emerged online of gang members openly boasting about shooting people and gang violence but police say they are finding it difficult to have the content removed. Gangsters are threatening rivals and glorying their  crimes  through a string of viral videos. An investigation revealed Birmingham gang members have been using grime music videos to issue chilling threats to each other on  YouTube  . Gang members boast about shooting people in the clips   Police chiefs say they are working to identify criminals and remove the clips but admitted it is "very rare" for them to be taken down from social media, despite repeated requests by officers. One video, posted in December, appears to make reference to a shooting and a separate  stabbing in the city, the  Birmingham Mail  reports.
