Man Bags One Year Imprisonment Over Land Scam

                                               Justice M. L. Owolabi of the Oyo State High Court, sitting in Iyagunku, today, December 7, 2018 convicted and sentenced one Gafar Saka to one year imprisonment for obtaining money under false pretence contrary to Section 419 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 38, Laws of the Oyo State 2000. The sentence takes effect from the day of his arrest. Gafar who was re-arraigned today by the Ibadan office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Co mmission, EFCC, on a one count amended charge bordering on obtaining money under false pretence pleaded guilty and entered into a plea bargain. He was therefore, convicted accordingly. He also refunded the said plots of land to the complainant.  The amended information that earned the convict the jail term reads, “that you Gafar Saka between the 26th of November, and 14th December, 2016 at Ibadan within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, with the intent to defraud, obtained the sum of N4

N573 Million Fraud: EFCC Arraigns Ex. NABDA'S DG, 9 others

                                       A former Director General of the National Biotechnology Development Agency, NABDA, Professor Lucy Ogbadu and nine other officials, including the Bayelsa State's Director of the Agency, Josiah Bitrus Habu, were on Thursday, 6 December, 2018 arraigned by the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Port Harcourt's Office. They were arraigned before Justice A.O. Awogboro of the Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. Other suspects docked were Beatrice Alphine Ogoh; Habu Esther Josiah; Alphine Ogoh; Ebinbin Ajagun; Gloria Ishaya; Yerima Joseph Ephraim, Nathan Danladi and Prof. Godwin Haruna Ogbadu. Three companies docked alongside the suspects are: Jiniya Nig. N5m Fraud: Defendant's Plea for Favour Forces Judge's Withdrawal

                              The trial of Victoria Adelana, a civil engineer, who is standing trial for a N5 million fraud, before Justice D.Z. Senchi of a Federal Capital Territory, FCT High Court, Jabi, has taken a new twist as the trial judge withdrew from the case accusing the defendant of embarrassing him with several calls, “asking for help” in the matter. Adelana, who is accused of defrauding Chinenye Ike in a land scam, was arraign ed in May 2016, and pleaded “not guilty” to the charge. She later jumped bail, and had to be declared wanted, before operatives of the EFCC arrested her on February 10, 2018 and brought her to court to face her trial. Justice Senchi thereafter revoked the bail earlier granted her and ordered that she be remanded in Suleja prison. IGP Team Handovers Three Suspected Internet Fraudsters to EFCC

Operatives of the IGP Intelligence Response Team, IRT, has handed over three suspected Advance Fee fraudsters to the Ibadan office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC for further investigation. The suspects who are between 22 and 29 years of age includes: Ebenezer Adeniyi Oluwafemi, Kolade Samuel Sogo, and Olwagbenga Majeed Ejikunke. They were arrested Tuesday 4th, December, 2018 in Ilesha, Os un State following series of intelligence gathered by the operatives. Preliminary investigations further revealed that the suspects allegedly got involved in different romance scam posing as female foreigners to fleece unsuspecting victims on the social media. At the point of arrest, varied fetish materials, two laptops, and five different brands of telephones were recovered from them. Tragedy as fuel tanker crushes commercial motorcyclist to death in Ondo few weeks after his wedding

                                                                          A fuel tanker crushed a commercial motorcyclist, simply identified as Kayode, to death, at Oma Junction, Alagbaka area of Akure, Ondo State capital on Friday.   The incident happened when the fuel tanker which was heading towards Yeoma Plaza was stopped by the traffic warden on duty. The tanker driver lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the motorcyclist who was approaching the junction, killing him on the spot.    "The tanker was stopped by the traffic warden but the driver claimed he lost control of the vehicle and rammed to the bike man and crushed him. The tanker first dragged the cyclist forward and eventually crushed him before stopping. Police deployed 500 to Lagos Island for Crime and Traffic Control

                        The Lagos State Police Command has deployed additional five hundred policemen to various routes on the Lagos Island with special focus on Apogbon, TBS, Eko Hotels and environs . This was done to boost the number of personnel already at various points in the area. The deployment  was necessitated by the following events coming up on the Island which includes: The Experience, Adekunle Gold Concert and the Davido Concert. Also factored in the strategy are people who would be embarking on religious pilgrimage to RCCG Holy Ghost Congress at Redeem Camp and Shiloh at the Winners' Chapel. Expectedly, the aforementioned events will lead to surge in vehicular and human traffic thereby bringing additional pressure to the already strained traffic situation in the commercial city resulting in gridlock. Nigerian national arrested with half a kg of heroin in India

                                            The CIA staff, Kharar, India on Wednesday, arrested a Nigerian national, Nasa Ulagba, near Shivjot Enclave and seized half a kg of heroin from his possession. According to the police, the value of the heroin in the international market is estimated to be Rs 2.5 crore. ASI Deepak Singh was patrolling near Shivjot Enclave when he noticed a Nigerian national coming out of the park.  ''When he saw the police, he tried to escape from the spot. The police became suspicious and caught hold of him. On enquiry, he told the police his name and said he was staying in Tamil Nadu and had come here. A 16 year old boy electrocuted while wearing headphones with his phone plugged into a charger

                                           A 16-year-old boy has died after he was electrocuted by his headphones that were plugged into his phone while it was charging Mohammed Aidil Azzahar Zaharin was listening to music with his headphones plugged into his charging phone. He fell asleep in the process and was found the next day by his mother. At first, his mother thought he was still asleep so she left him there and left for work. She returned early from work and saw him still unconscious and cold on the floor. She tried to wake him up but unable to do so, she called medics who declared him dead. It was then confirmed that the boy, from Malaysia, did not have any other injuries or bruises on his body other than bleeding and burns on his left ear, and the autopsy later showed that the cause of death was electrocution. Father insists man who killed his pregnant daughter in Rivers State must marry her corpse before burial

The father of late Ozigie Betty Nwovueze, 32, who was killed by her boyfriend in Wimpy area of Rumuepricom,  Port Harcourt has insisted that the suspect must marry her corpse.    Prince Uwabie also known as J-Boy, 34, who is said to have a history of physically abusing the deceased, beat her on December 2nd until she slumped and died in his house. A woman has been charged with sexual assault and domestic abuse after she battered her boyfriend because he refused to perform oral sex on her. Amy Nicole Parrino, 43, punched and hit her boyfriend with a belt on Sunday night at his home in Missouri. She also pushed him to the ground and sat naked on his face before telling him to "eat my p****", according to court documents. Parrino hit him 20 to 25 times with an "open and closed fist" before she attacked him with a belt, cell phone and brass plate, the documents said. A 16-yr-old student stabbed to death by his classmate while testing the superiroty of his charm

                                      A 16-year-old secondary school student in Ekiti state has died following serious injuries he sustained when himself and his fellow classmate were testing the superiority of their charms on Thursday, December 6th. According to reports, the deceased, Mathew Favour and the culprit, Kehinde Timilehin, both students of Ado Grammar School in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, were said to have engaged in a dispute over the ownership of a ball before it degenerated into an argument over who had more portent charms. Eyewitnesses say the deceased initiated the test for superiority of charms when he rushed to his home and brought a small axe and a knife wrapped in a white and red scarf  and dared his colleague to fight with him.                                             Meng Wanzhou, the daughter of the founder of Chinese telecoms giant, Huawei, has been arrested in Canada and faces extradition to the United States. Meng Wanzhou, who is Huawei's chief financial officer was arrested in Vancouver on Saturday, December 1, 2018. She is now facing extradition to the U.S. on suspicion she violated U.S. sanctions against Iran, the Globe and Mail newspaper reported on Wednesday. Details of the arrest have not been released but the U.S. has been investigating Huawei over possible violation of sanctions against Iran. This comes after Reuters reported in April that the U.S. authorities have been probing Huawei since at least 2016 for allegedly shipping U.S.-origin products to Iran and other countries in violation of U.S. export and sanctions laws. Ex-NNPC Boss, Andrew Yakubu, seeks to quash money laundering charges

A former Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Andrew Yakubu, is seeking to quash money laundering charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, as he files a “no-case” submission before Justice A.R. Mohammed of the Federal High Court, Abuja. In the no-case submission dated November 6th 2018, and filed through his counsel, Anone Usman, Yakubu aked the court to strike out the charges against him, and discharge and acquit him, arguing that “the evidence led by the prosecution’s seven witnesses did not establish a case” against him, necessitating him to defend himself. Man slaughters pregnant girlfriend in Rivers State, buries her body inside his apartment

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested one Prince Owabie from Rumueperikom community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the State for allegedly killing and burying his pregnant girlfriend inside his apartment. Owabie is alleged to have killed Better Ozige Nwabueze and buried her inside his one-room apartment around Wimpy Junction, by Ikwerre Road in Port Harcourt. The incident occurred on Sunday, but the suspect was arrested on Tuesday, by policemen following a tip-off. It was gathered that the suspect popularly called J-Boy, had confessed to some of his friends about his deed and they alerted the police who moved in and arrested the suspect. A at the time of the report, the body of the slain pregnant lady has not been exhumed from the suspect’s apartment. Witness tells court how kidnap kingpin, Evans shot Young Shall Grow motors chairman, killed his two escorts

                                     A police officer attached to the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team, Idowu Haruna, has told Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Special Offences Court, of how alleged billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike alias Evans, shot the Chairman of the Young Shall Grow motors, Obianuju Vincent and killed two of his escorts while attempting to kidnap the transcorp executive.                                  Chioma Agwuegbo, the founder of Tech Her Nigeria has expressed concern after visiting the site where a 7-storey building collapsed and trapped people in Port Harcourt. Chioma revealed that the officials on ground aren't doing enough to see if they can rescue more trapped people. She said that of the three excavators on site, only one is in use. She also added that they haven't gotten to the ground floor yet even though 13 days have passed since the building collapsed. Young lady who almost committed suicide in Lagos yesterday shares her story

                                   King Mavis Amarchi, a young lady residing in Lagos who almost committed suicide in Lekki yesterday December 5th, has taken to her Facebook page to narrate how God saved her from ending her life. According to Amarchi, she has been battling depression for six months and had no longing to continue living. On several occassions, she had attempted to take her life by way of overdosing on drugs or cutting herself but her mother always came through to rescue her. A 22-year-old man arrested in Abuja for allegedly killing his father

                              A 22-year-old man,  Huzaifa Hussaini Usman has been charged by the police in Abuja for allegedly killing his own father. The deceased, Alhaji Hussaini Usman, a businessman and contractor, was allegedly strangled to death in his residence at Abdulkareem Adisa Estate, Apo, Abuja on October 28. Police investigators have reportedly concluded after over a month of investigation that the deceased’s last son, Huzaifa Hussaini Usman, was the main suspect in the murder. According to initial reports circulated on October 28, armed robbers invaded the house of the deceased and strangled him. Cross River journalists escape death in kidnap-robbery attack

                                      CrossRiverWatch publisher, Mr. Agba Jalingo and News Editor, Mr. Jonathan Ugbal, escaped what seems to be a kidnap or robbery attempt at Amadik community, Arondinzogu in Imo State while traveling to Lagos by road.
