Police arrest suspects over murder of Imo monarch

The Police Command in Imo has arrested two suspects in connection with the death of Brendan Ibekwe, the traditional ruler of Mgbe community in the Orlu Local Government Area of Imo.

The spokesman of the command, Andrew Enwerem, told reporters on Wednesday in Owerri that Mr Ibekwe was assassinated on June 24 by gunmen in his community while his body was found on the Orlu-Owerri highway.
Mr Enwerem said the Commissioner of Police in Imo, Dasuki Galadanchi directed the command’s Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department to take over the matter.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, Samuel Ohiri, has expressed his concern over the murder.
He described the incident as a sacrilege: for a traditional ruler to be murdered by gunmen.
Mr Ohiri called for thorough investigation into the matter, saying that the killers must be brought to book.

Suspected cultists storm bar in Delta state and kill Polytechnic graduate

             A Mass Communication graduate of the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku was shot dead by suspected cultists on Thursday, August 13.   According to reports, the deceased identified as Oboh, was watching a match at a bar at Umuagu Quarters in Asaba, the state capital, when the gunmen stormed the place, went directly to where he was seated and shot him dead at close range.   "Oboh only came to watch a football match in the bar and he was drinking around 10:00pm when three gunmen came into bar and shot him four times and dragged his lifeless body outside the place. A female journalist has been shot dead while covering a riot in Londonderry, Ireland. Lyra McKee, 29, is believed to have been hit by a stray bullet after a gunman opened fire indiscriminately at around 11pm.
