The Central Bank of Nigeria says the development led to a rise in the nation’s foreign reserves.   A London court has ordered the release of the $200 million guarantee placed as security by the Nigerian government in relation to the Process and Industrial Development (P&ID) $10 billion arbitral claim. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) made this known in a series of tweets on Tuesday. The bank said the development led to a rise in the nation’s foreign reserves.   Prosecutors in Portugal have alleged two lesbian lovers dismembered a man so they could use his fingerprints to access his mobile phone and steal $77,120 from his bank account.   The lovers, one a security worker known as Maria Malveiro, 19, and 23-year-old nurse Mariana Fonseca (both pictured below) are accused of throwing Diogo Goncalves' torso into the sea, but keeping hold of his head.     According to prosecutors in Portugal preparing to put the pair on trial this October, Malveiro is said to have admitted to an Algarve judge who questioned her after the crime they were inspired by US police series Dexter.   Diogo (pictured below) was strangled to death on March 18 and the woman allegedly threw his torso into the sea from cliffs in the Algarve town of Sagres     Four days later they used a print from a finger they had cut off his right hand to access his mobile and transfer the cash, then waited another 24 hours to dump the rest of his body. ...

  Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, the Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has warned that Nigeria may experience an explosion in the number of COVID-19.   Speaking in a TV interview in Abuja, Ihekweazu said a second wave of the virus is inevitable in Nigeria. He urged all states in Nigeria to increase the number of testing as some people might be positive and still asymptomatic.   A few days ago, the NCDC listed nine states that have tested the least number of samples for COVID-19.   An Anambra couple have been called out for maltreating their 8-year-old househelp.   The couple identified as Mrs Ogochukwu Anichukwu and Mr. Emmanuel Anichukwu were accused of flogging the little girl mercilessly and starving her repeatedly.   Tragedy struck in Bashua community, Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State as a man allegedly killed his wife and then committed suicide over her alleged infidelity. According to Martmercy Busaosowo, the man, said to hail from neighbouring Akwa Ibom State murdered his wife in the early hours of Monday, September 28, after he heard that she had been sleeping around with other men.   His body was later found dangling from a tree in the bush by members of the community. The names of the couple are yet to be disclosed.  

  A former staff of First Bank of Nigeria Limited, Oreoluwa Adesakin, has been sentenced to 98 years in prison by Justice Muniru Olagunju of Oyo High Court for fraud.   A statement released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, said Adesakin was found to have committed financial fraud against her employers to the tune of N49,320,652.32 and an additional $368,203.00 belonging to the bank, which she converted to personal use.   She was prosecuted by the Ibadan Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on 14-count charges bordering on stealing, forgery, and fraudulent accounting.   One of the charges read “That you Oreoluwa Adesakin sometime between the months of May 2013 and November 2013, at Ibadan within the Ibadan Judicial Division, whilst being a staff of First Bank PLC stole the sum of N25,974,116.13 from First Bank PLC MoneyGram Payment Naira Account, the property of First bank PLC.”   She pleaded not guilt...

  A 28-year-old man who allegedly murdered his parents, wife and sister-in-law in Kisoro district, western Uganda handed himself to the police on Sunday, September 27.   The suspect Gerald Ndikumukiza, a resident of Kageyo village, Busengo parish Nyarubuye sub-county, last Thursday, reportedly hacked to death his 26-year-old wife Maserina Mujawimana, his father Deogratious Sebitama aged 80, his 75-year-old mother Bonconsira Nyiraguhirwa before turning the machete on a 20-year-old Joan Nyiramahoro, his sister-in-law.   After committing the heinous act, Ndikumukiza went into hiding, but left a letter at the scene of crime with the words “Icyo mwashakaga mwakibonye” a Kifumbira statement meaning “what you wanted you have seen it".   The suspect, had a day before, come from Masaka district where he worked as a casual labourer.   The Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Elly Maate, who confirmed the development on Tuesday, September 29, said that the suspect handed...

  Serie A could be dramatically suspended for two weeks after 14 team members and staff tested positive for coronavirus at Genoa club.   The 14 team members and staff at the Italian club returned positive results on Monday after their 6-0 defeat to Napoli on Sunday.   The club statement read: 'After today's tests, the number of COVID-19 positive employees has risen to 14 team members and staff.   'The club has activated all the procedures according to the protocol and informed the authorities.   A 27-year-old man escaped death after he was attacked by a suspected ritual killer in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.   It was gathered that the incident happened in the early hours of Tuesday, Septemeber 29, around Obafemi Awolowo stadium.    According to an eye witness, Wole Williams, the victim suddenly ran out of a bush path of the stadium calling for help after being attacked by a suspected ritualist.   “I was here when we suddenly saw the man running out of the bush, at first, we thought it was two mad men fighting, because we had lots of mad men living around this place, we decided to move close to him when they continued shouting for help, on getting there, he explained how a ritualist suddenly grabbed him from behind and started eating his mouth, palm and had removed his teeth while he struggled with the ritualist before he eventually escaped," the witness said.   A search party was organised to fish out the suspected ritualist.   “...

Chikwe Ihekweazu The Director-General of Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Chikwe Ihekweazu has disclosed that Nigeria does not have enough capacity for production of vaccines.   Ihekweazu who made this known in a television programme in Abuja and also expressed optimism that the country will not lack access to vaccines when they are available.   The NCDC DG revealed that most of the vaccines would have to be produced in India and other countries, but the country will leverage on its sophisticated distribution system through the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA).   Ihekweazu said;    “The most important thing in short-term goal for a vaccine is access.   China has declared a health emergency over Black death plague after a three-year-old boy was struck down by the disease. The child, from a remote village in Menghai county, Yunnan, was confirmed to be infected by the killer disease on Monday according to Chinese state media reports.   Bubonic plague is a bacterial disease spread by fleas living on wild rodents and can kill an adult in less than 24 hours if not treated in time.   Chinese authorities have now started a level IV emergency response to prevent another epidemic following the Covid-19 outbreak. The development comes after the discovery of three dead disease-ridden rats in a village in Menghai, China.   One person has been confirmed dead in a protest organized by restive youths in Daddara village in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina state.   The aggrieved youths took to the streets to protest the inadequate security in their community that has led them to witness several attacks from bandits.   One Charles Nkubi has been arrested for allegedly killing a man after he caught him having sex with his wife inside their matrimonial home in Uganda.   The incident which happened at Kiwalimu Zone, Wampewo Parish in Kasangati Township were on Sunday night, September 27,  has thrown residents into shock.   An Ekiti State High court sitting in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday, September 29, sentenced 29-year-old Gbenga Aluko, to death by hanging for involving in cultism and killings of three residents in the state.   While delivering his judgment, Justice Abiodun Adesodun said the prosecutor was able to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt against the accused.   "The penalty for the offence committed and established against the accused is death, he is hereby sentenced to death by hanging.
