One die as protesting youths raze police station and immigration post in Katsina


 One person has been confirmed dead in a protest organized by restive youths in Daddara village in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina state.

 

The aggrieved youths took to the streets to protest the inadequate security in their community that has led them to witness several attacks from bandits. The youths burnt the Police and Immigration posts in the border town.

 

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Isah Gambo, said the situation has been brought under control and that 43 persons have been arrested in connection with the protest.

 

“The Command received a report that some group of disgruntled youths and adults mainly from Daddara village, Jibia LGA of Katsina state, came out in their numbers, tumultuously rioting and protesting.

The angry protesters were reported to have blocked the Katsina – Jibia Highway, exactly at Dadda village, smashing and destroying vehicles of security agencies and that of innocent citizens passing along the highway.

They also set ablaze a Police Border Control Post – Daddara, Nigerian Immigration Service Check point – Danmasani, one Police Border Patrol Van (stationery), one Volkswagen Gulf III motor vehicle belonging to the officer in charge of the police border post, two AK 47 rifles belonging to Joint Border Drill Forces, one Ak 47 rifle and a pistol belonging to Police Mounted troops.

The rioters smashed and damaged the windscreen of many motor vehicles of innocent commuters passing through the highway.

Consequently, the Command swiftly deployed teams of Police mobile Force (PMF) and conventional units to the area and have succeeded in arresting forty-three (43) persons found rioting’’.

 

He said investigation has so far revealed the riot was purportedly sponsored by smugglers and their agents targeting joint border patrol personnel and their facilities.

Abuja-based businessman beaten to death by unknown assailants in Enugu

An Abuja-based businessman was beaten to death by unknown assailants in Enugu. The deceased, Chinedu Nzegwu popularly known as Obroshoo by friends, was attacked by the assailants few days before his return to Abuja. They reportedly hit him with a stick on the head leaving him for dead. Late Nzegwu, a Pure and Industrial Chemistry graduate of the University of Port Harcourt,  is a former student of Dennis Memorial Grammar School DMGS, Onitsha, Anambra State. His friends and family members have taken to Facebook to mourn his tragic death. One of them Nwachi Viktor, wrote: "Murdered in cold blood in Enugu by fellow ndi igbo. Another young and hardworking man from Onitsha.He was my junior in Dennis Memorial Grammar school Onitsha. Trying to understand why they had to beat him to death,he was never a thief and came from a good home. Rest in peace Chinedu Nzegwu. No one is safe in Nigeria!"

Boko Haram members attack community in Borno state; raze hospital and Telecoms mast

                                 Suspected Boko Haram members have attacked Magumeri community in Borno State, destroying the only functional telecommunications mast, a hospital recently equipped by the Borno State Government and other facilities.   According to reports, the insurgents invaded the community at about 4pm on Monday, August 17, shooting sporadically. The military airstrike engaged the sect members in a gun battle but it did not deter the sect members who destroyed anything in sight. A woman was reportedly killed in the crossfire while several other persons sustained injuries.   Magumer which has witnessed a series of Boko Haram attacks, is about 40km drive from Maiduguri, the state capital.   See more photos from the attack below   Credit-LIB
