APC youth leader shot dead by suspected armed robbers while attempting to rescue female petrol station attendant in Edo State
Unknown gunmen suspected to be armed robbers on Wednesday, March 28, shot dead the youth leader of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Etsako West local government of Edo State, Samson Sedi.
Sedi, popularly known as Power Remain, was allegedly killed by armed robbers while attempting to rescue a female petrol station attendant at NNPC mega in Jattu, Etsako West Local Government Area, who was being robbed on Wednesday in Jattu.
The Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has expressed shock at the news of the brutal killing of Mr Sedi.
"I was shocked on receiving the news of Mr. Samson Sedi’s death. My heart goes out to his family. I have ordered the relevant security agencies to arrest the killers and prosecute them without delay,” Obaseki said.
He described the late Sedi as “a grassroots mobiliser, a philanthropist who cared for orphans and a great lover of people, whose death is a huge loss to Edo people and the APC.”
“I learnt he was driving into a road around a petrol station in Jattu and heard a female petrol station attendant shouting for help. The late Sedi, drove into the petrol station to ascertain what was happening, only to be shot by the armed robbers who were operating at the petrol station. Sedi has been with us in our party for a long time and I sympathise with his family,” the governor said.
Sedi who was fondly called ‘Power Remain’ by his friends and supporters, was a rallying point for APC youths in his ward and constituency.
Meanwhile, a Chieftain of the APC from Etsako Central and an House of Representatives hopeful, RTN. Comrade Julius Abuda expressed shock over the "sudden, gruesome and horrible death" of Mr Sedi.
The House of Rep hopeful, in a press released by his Media Aide, Comrade Jerome Eramho expressed his shock over the painful and gruesome death.
"I was so shocked to hear of the unexpected and painful loss of a brother, true friend and a very loyal and committed member of our great party, APC. I am still trying to accept it. He will be missed greatly by all of us who knew him as a truthful person, bold, dependable, fearless politician, brutally frank, a youth advocate and community leader" he said."He was such a lovely, jovial and easy-going person and so active and vibrant, which makes it even harder to believe his death. Power Remain was a man who fearlessly stood out for any cause he believes in anywhere, anytime and will be missed especially by Etsako youths. He was loved, admired and respected by both old and young."
Describing his death as a painful one, shocking, unbelievable, horrible and terrible, Abuda expressed his confidence in the capacity and sure of the political will of the Edo State Govt led by Mr. Godwin Obaseki and Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu to fish out and prosecute the wicked and heartless killers of Power Remain in no distant time.
According to Abuda, Power Remain was a political tutor and mentor to many. He admired his leadership commitment and guidance, his valuable contributions to the success of the party, APC cannot be overlooked. In his words:
"Power Remain was an asset to our great party, APC. His absence therefore no doubt has created a vacuum that will be hard to fill. His consistency, doggedness, fearlessness, political sagacity and suavity will be missed. He will be remembered for good".
Lamenting on the endless pain occasioned by the tragic death, Abuda prayed that God grant the widow and children the fortitude to bear the irreparable, painful and tragic loss. In his words:
"I pray his family finds the love and strength needed to forge ahead in his huge absence. My heart and deepest sympathies go to the widow and children"."In this time of grief, the family is in my thoughts and prayers. He die as an Hero. I pray that in this difficult time, the love of God shelters the widow and children and Mend their pain as they move forward. We will surely do our best in bringing hope and succour to the family. May God grant the soul of Power Remain a peaceful and eternal rest IJN, Amen".
