Sad! Three year old boy drowns in a pit latrine in South Africa

A three-year-old boy is the latest child to die in South Africa after drowning in a pit latrine.

Little Omari Monono died in the outside toilet at his aunt's house in Limpopo province, the same region where five-year-old Michael Komape drowned in a school toilet in 2014.

Police say the boy's aunt called for help when her own search failed. "His aunt took off his clothes and left him to relieve himself outside the toilet as usual. She was busy with her house chores when she noticed she had not seen the toddler for some time," police spokesperson Constable Maphure Manamela said.

Earlier this year in the rural Eastern Cape province, a five-year-old girl drowned in a pit latrine. Lumka Mkhethwa went missing without a trace from Luna Primary School in March. A pack of sniffer dogs found her body at the bottom of a dark, faeces-filled toilet.

After Lumka's death, President Cyril Ramaphosa called for pit latrines to be eradicated from South African school by the end of 2018

Dare devil armed robbers today attacked a new generation commercial bank in Ila-Orangun, Osun state killing three persons, including police security. The suspected armed robbers, numbering about eight, were said to have stormed the bank at about 2pm and operated for one- and- a half hours after blasting the bank’s security door with an explosive substance. A substantial amount of money was carted away from the bank. Two other victims killed by the armed robbers were said to be hit by stray bullets while a number of people sustained various degrees of injury while trying to flee the scene. Normalcy restored after militants attack Akwa Ibom community – Police

The Police Command in Akwa Ibom says it has restored peace to Iwukem community in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of the state attacked by suspected militants on Sunday. The spokesman for the command, MacDon Achebe, told journalists in Uyo on Tuesday that the police had restored normalcy in the area. Mr Achebe said the police were on top of the situation although he did not confirm the casualty figure. “Police were aware of the attack; we are on top of it and normalcy has been restored to the community,” he said. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt that suspected militants attacked the community about 10p.m. on Sunday, shot sporadically and set some houses ablaze. Although the cause of the attack is unknown, the state government, in a move to bring to an end killings and kidnappings, banned cult activities across the state.
