The European Union has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the release of the abducted Dapchi schoolgirls.

The EU in a statement by its Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ray, expressed relief over the release as it called for the liberation of other girls in the custody of the Boko Haram  

”With great relief that we learnt about the release of the majority of the abducted Dapchi girls in Nigeria. They can now return to their families and have the opportunity to rebuild their lives. Yet not we cannot forget that not all were so fortunate. We express our sincere condolences to the families and friends of the girls that lost their lives. We renew our solidarity with all the girls still held captive and call for their liberation,” it stated.  

The EU called on the Federal Government to ensure that urgent measures are taken to avoid repeated abductions and violence. ”All young people have a right to safe education and the EU will work with Nigeria in supporting efforts to secure this objective,” it stated.  

The 105 girls were released on Wednesday, a month after they were abducted by Boko Haram in Dapchi, Yobe State.

Vietnam authorities seize 3.3 tonnes of pangolin scales in a container from Nigeria

                   The customs office at Saigon Port under the Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department on May 3 seized an additional 3.3 tonnes of pangolin scales illegally imported from Africa. The container was declared by Tan Vinh Thinh Trade Co. Ltd to contain dried cashew nuts. It was in transit to Cambodia from Nigeria. After examining, the customs office and the Anti-Smuggling Police Department (C74) under the Ministry of Public Security found the pangolin scales contained in bags and covered by cashew nut bags. The city’s customs force is working with relevant agencies to further investigate the case. On April 27, HCM City’s Customs Department also seized nearly 3.8 tonnes of pangolin scales, illegally imported to Cat Lai Port in district 2. The pangolin scales were hidden in bags, in the middle of two containers, surrounded by timber blocks in order to escape the attention...

Inspector shot as police arrest three cult members

The suspects The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested three suspected cult members in Yenegwe, in the Yenagoa area of the state. The suspects – Godstime Atiburuzi, 21; Righteous Bonnafor, 20, and Godgift Ebi, 18– said to be ringleaders of the Bobos cult, were reportedly apprehended by detectives attached to the Igbogene Police Division. PUNCH Metro learnt that in the course of the arrests, Atiburuzi, who wanted to escape, shot the police inspector who led the team in the hand.
