Police bust new kidnappers hideout in Ikorodu

In continuation of its onslaught on militants operating from the creeks, Lagos State Police Command early this morning raided and recovered seven army and police bullet proof vests, eight ballistic helmets and nine life jackets from a new kidnappers hideouts in Ishawo, Ikorodu, Lagos.
The hideout was discovered at about 8:00 a.m yesterday by a team of Ikorodu Special Anti – Robber Squad (SARS) and Volunteer Police led by Superintendent Godfrey Soriweiu.

This success came two weeks after the discovery of a similar hideout in Ishawo, Ikorodu, Lagos.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Fatai Owoseni had two weeks ago charged the team to embark on a continuous combing of the Lagos waterways and creeks in search of suspected kidnappers.

The suspected kidnappers, who were preparing their morning meal scampered into safety on sighting the special team abandoning several items.

Other item recovered by the team includes a speed boat belonging to the suspected kidnappers.

The team thereafter destroyed the hideout before moving the recovered items out of the location. 

While the team is continuing with its operation, Owoseni charged the team to redouble its efforts in ensuring that Lagos creeks are free of kidnappers. 

In another development, seven (7) suspected militants arrested by the Military in Ondo were handed over to the Lagos State Police Command also yesterday. 

The suspects are members of the late notorious militant (Ossy) gang. 

The arrested suspects will soon be arraigned.

Covid-19: 32 African countries report less than 5,000 COVID-19 cases

Some 32 African countries have so far reported less than 5,000 COVID-19 cases amid a major spike of new cases across few African countries. The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Addis Ababa. According to the centre, the number of confirmed cases in Africa surged to 1,187,937 as the death toll from the pandemic rose to 27,779 as at Monday. It added that eight African countries had reported positive COVID-19 cases ranging from 5,000 to 10,000. Africa CDC also said 11 countries have so far reported cases within the range of 10,001 to 50,000 positive COVID-19 cases. Meanwhile, three African countries – Egypt, Nigeria and Morocco – reported positive cases ranging within 50,001 to 100,000. South Africa is the only African country that reported above 100,000 confirmed positive cases so far, which stands at 609,773, according to the Africa CDC. Woman killed in Ibadan after serial murder suspect Shodipe fled police custody

                                      The Oyo State Police Command now has blood in its hands after a fresh murder was committed in the Akinyele area of Ibadan, the capital. The murder happened a few days after an alleged serial killer Sunday Shodipe escaped from police custody. A middle-aged woman, Mrs Olufunmilayo, was macheted to death on Friday, with Shodipe suspected as the killer, as the killing bore his imprimatur.
