Man Docked For Rape in Bariga


A 25-year-old unemployed, Sunday Salami, on Monday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday for alleged rape.
The accused is facing a charge of allegedly raping his neighbour’s daughter.
The prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 11 in his residence at Buraimo Street, Bariga in Lagos State.
Ogu said that the accused invited a 14-year-old girl, daughter of his neighbor, into his room on the pretext that he was sending her on an errand.
“The accused shut the door at her and raped her,’’ he said.
Ogu said that the girl told her mother, who reported the case to the police which led to the arrest of the accused.
The offence contravened Section 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The law provides that any person, who contravenes the section “is guilty of a felony and liable to imprisonment for life’’.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
The chief magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, granted the accused to a bail of N25,000 with one surety in like sum.
Akanni adjourned the case until June 19 for a mention.

The Oyo state govt cancels curfew

  The Oyo State government has announced the cancellation of the 10pm to 4am curfew earlier imposed on the state as part of measures to contain the spread of the novel Coronavirus.   A statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Makinde,Taiwo Adisa, on Thursday September 3, says the state government decided to abolish the curfew after series of reviews.   According to the statement, the decision to abolish the curfew was premised on the need to reduce the burden on business owners in the state who have been adversely affected by the curfew.   The government noted that statistics show that COVID-19 cases were declining in the state. Nigerian nanny found guilty of murdering 8-month-old baby by force-feeding her in the US

A Nigerian nanny has been found guilty of murdering an 8-month-old baby by force-feeding her half a pint of milk in less than 30 seconds. Oluremi Adeleye, 73, was trusted with the care of 8-month-old Enita Salubi in Maryland. But the nanny was captured on a nanny cam taking the teat off a bottle as she forced the child to guzzle down baby formula in October 2016.
