Tragedy as four die in car accident

 

Four dead, others injured in Anambra auto crash

Four persons died in an auto crash on Monday, September 28, in Obosi, Idemmili North Council Area of Anambra State while others susstained varying degrees of injury.

 

The crash which occurred after Obosi Police Station, off Onitsha-Owerri road, involved a tipper truck with registration number, JIT 168 XG, a commercial bus belonging to Izuchukwu Motors, with registration number, ABN 430 YN, and a black Toyota Spider, with registration number, FST 122 DQ.

 

The dead were deposited at a nearby mortuary while the injured were taken to Unity Hospital, Obosi for medical attention.

 

Narrating his account, the driver of the ill-fated black Toyota Spider, who pleaded anonymity, thanked God for saving his life and his fellow occupants, and to passersby, Police and FRSC officials, for joining in rescue operation.

 

Mr. Obiora Chinonso, a trader at Mgbuka Obosi, who joined in rescue operation, attributed the incident to over speeding and break failure.

 

Meanwhile, men of the Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corp helped in rescue operation and clearing of road for free flow of traffic.

Police Arrest Suspected Uber Taxi Hijacker

Uber  The Police in Lagos on Sunday said they had arrested a member of a syndicate notorious for hiring and hijacking Uber Taxi in the state. The Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command, ACP Olatunji Disu, confirmed the arrest. Disu said the suspect was arrested by his men posted to Oshodi Oke early Friday morning. According to the commander, the suspect operate with two others, who are now at large. “The suspect, Emmanuel John Ugbomah, 37, from Ndukwa, Delta State, was arrested in Oshodi Oke at 12:30 a.m. on Friday while trying to escape after a botched attempt to hijack an Uber taxi, a black Toyota Corolla, belonging to one Adebisi. COVID-19: Nigeria gets $114.28m from World Bank

                         The World Bank has approved $114.28 million financing to help Nigeria prevent, detect and respond to the threat posed by COVID-19 with a specific focus on state-level responses. According to a statement from the bank on Friday, the amount includes $100 million credit from the International Development Association (IDA) and $14.28 million grant from the Pandemic Emergency Financing Facility. It stated that the Federal Government would provide grants to thirty-six states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) through the COVID-19 Preparedness and Response Project (CoPREP). It added that the project would serve as immediate support to break the chain of COVID-19 local transmission and limit the spread of coronavirus through containment and mitigation strategies.
