Three persons die in boat mishap in Adamawa state

Three persons identified as Melody M, Isaac G., and James S., have died in a boat mishap that occurred in Adamawa state.

 

Sahara Reporters reports that the victims, two males, and one female, reportedly drowned while on their way to a burial ceremony in the Lamurde Local Government Area of the state, after the boat capsized.

 

Confirming the incident, the chairman of Lamurde Local Government Area, Burto Williams, described it as an unfortunate tragedy.

"The accident is a very unfortunate tragedy that requires government to come to the aid of the people of the area who are constantly being ravaged by cascading water.  

Lamurde LG is making efforts to provide medical treatment for the survivors while the council will also foot the bill of the burial arrangements of the three deceased," Burto said

United Nations asks individuals and nations to contribute $35bn for WHO's initiatives to fight Covid-19

  United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, has called for a “quantum leap in funding” for the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) initiative to speed up the development of COVID-19 vaccine. The UN Chief said as much as $35bn would be needed in order to efficiently fund the fight against COVID-19.   According to Guterres, the funding project, known as the Access to COVID-19 Tools Accelerator (ACT), has received 3 billion dollars. Jigawa State Assembly suspends two Local Government chairmen for six months each

                                  The Jigawa House of Assembly on Wednesday suspended two local government chairmen for six months after they allegedly absconded when lawmakers visited their councils for oversight functions.
