                         One arrested over murder in Anambra

 The Anambra state police command has arrested one person in connection with the alleged murder of a 43-year-old man, Azubuike Ekwegbalu, at Commissioners quarters in Awka, the state capital in the early hours of today Sunday, August 9.

 

A statement from the spokesperson of the state police command, Haruna Mohammed, said the police received a report that Azubuike had been murdered.

 

''Following the report, Police detectives attached to B' Division Awka led by the DPO CSP Emma Ogbuanya visited the scene and rushed the victim who was found in a pool of his blood to COOUTH Awka for medical attention where he was certified dead by the medical doctor on arrival. Corpse was deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.'' Haruna said

 

The police spokesperson said a careful observation on the deceased body revealed stab wounds while a blood-stained kitchen knife (pictured), was also recovered as exhibit at the scene. 

 

Haruna added that one suspect who allegedly was in the premises was arrested. He said the case is under investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Detectives at the commission said  Chieshe  revealed that the money was collected in instalments from her by her Coordinator,  Samuel Umoru . In one of the statements she volunteered to the EFCC, Chieshe who is a clerk in the Makurdi office of JAMB, was said to have revealed that the coordinator usually asked her to withdraw proceeds of the sale of the cards from her account in two banks. Police kill notorious Port Harcourt kidnap kingpin – Official

The police on Thursday announced they killed a Port Harcourt kidnap kingpin who has been on their wanted list. The man, identified as Prosper David, was killed during a shoot-out between the police and his gang, according to a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Force Headquarters, Abuja, Jimoh Moshood. The statement did not mention where the shoot-out took place. It said the kidnap kingpin was killed by a police joint strike force set up by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to trace those responsible for the abduction of one Tina Bob-Manuel, a Port Harcourt-based businesswoman. Mrs. Bob-Manuel, 58, was abducted November last year at her shop at Nvuigwe, Woji in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of the state. The kidnappers, who disguised themselves with police uniforms and were armed with AK-47 rifles, later demanded N100 million ransom from the victim’s family.
