South Africa initiates programme to end discrimination, xenophobia attacks

The Nigerian Union in South Africa (NUSA) on Saturday commended South Africa’s Gauteng Province for initiating a Social Cohesion Programme to end discrimination and xenophobia in the province.
Mr Adetola Olubajo, the President of NUSA, gave the commendation in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt.
According to him, the Premier of Gauteng, David Makhura, launched the programme at an event in the province on Friday.
“The Social Cohesion Programme which also features the Social Cohesion games will begin on Sunday, April 14, 2019.
“The programme is designed to curb all forms of discrimination and xenophobia as well as enhance cordial relations between nationalities of sister African countries and other nationalities in the Province.
Olubajo urged other provinces in that country to emulate Gauteng in building social cohesion in their areas.
“NUSA believes that this move will assist to curb xenophobic attacks because of mutual understanding it would create.
“We urged Nigerians living in South Africa to be law-abiding; avoid crime and acts that will put them into trouble or tarnish the image of our country,” he said.
Olubajo said that his union would continue to protect Nigerians as well as partner the South African and Nigerian governments to build cordial relationship among both nations.

                                    Kaduna state residents are currently staging a protest in front of the state government house, demanding the resignation and immediate prosecution of suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen. Onnoghen who is currently standing trial over the non-declaration of all his assets after assuming office in 2017, was suspended by President Buhari on Friday January 25th. Man escape from ritualist

  A 27-year-old man escaped death after he was attacked by a suspected ritual killer in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.   It was gathered that the incident happened in the early hours of Tuesday, Septemeber 29, around Obafemi Awolowo stadium.    According to an eye witness, Wole Williams, the victim suddenly ran out of a bush path of the stadium calling for help after being attacked by a suspected ritualist.   “I was here when we suddenly saw the man running out of the bush, at first, we thought it was two mad men fighting, because we had lots of mad men living around this place, we decided to move close to him when they continued shouting for help, on getting there, he explained how a ritualist suddenly grabbed him from behind and started eating his mouth, palm and had removed his teeth while he struggled with the ritualist before he eventually escaped," the witness said.   A search party was organised to fish out the suspected ritualist.   “...
