Three Exeter pensioners were murdered this week and a 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murders.

Alexander Lewis-Ranwell, a polo-playing former public schoolboy, was arrested on Tuesday and is being questioned over the murders of twins Dick and Roger Carter, 84, and Anthony Payne, 80.

Mr Payne, 80, was found dead on Monday afternoon, at about 3pm. Less than 24 hours after, twins Dick and Roger Carter, 84, were found dead at their home a mile away.  The twins were found at 1pm on Tuesday. All three slain elderly pensioners sustained serious head injuries, detectives confirmed.

Officers believe the killings in Exeter are linked due to similar 'significant level of injuries' and also due to the 'level of violence'.
Mr Payne and twin victims Dick and Roger Carter, 84, were all reclusive bachelors.

According to reports, Lewis-Ranwell was 'not talking' to police. A source said police had been granted extra 36 hours to question him.
One of Lewis-Ranwell's neigbours and family friends said that he was a keen polo player who attended the £30,000-a-year West Buckland boarding school.
The source said:

He was one of the nicest children you could ever meet. He is so polite and kind and was good at school.
He was brilliant at polo. He wanted to play so his dad bought him horses.

Despite an order of the Federal High Court in Abuja, mandating the Nigerian Army to allow a detained soldier, Idakpini Martins, see his lawyer and family, the Force on Wednesday, refused to obey. Mr Martins, a lance corporal, was arrested over a viral video on social media criticising the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, for “failing to provide adequate resources to soldiers combating Boko Haram.” He also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to be “serious in its fight against insurgency.” He has since been detained and has remained incommunicado for over a month without access to his lawyer nor family. Following a rights violation lawsuit, on July 22, Justice A. I. Chikere of the Federal High Court, Abuja granted the soldier access to his lawyer and relative. The judge held that it was a contravention of the fundamental human rights of the soldier not to be allowed to see h...

Nigeria will break if we release list of those who have received contracts from NDDC- Cairo Ojougboh

The executive director of projects at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Cairo Ojougboh, says Nigeria will break if the commission releases the list of highly placed Nigerians who have benefitted from contracts awarded by the commission.   The NDDC has been in the spotlight after the National Assembly launched an investigation into allegations of financial recklessness in the commission. The investigation took a different turn when the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, accused members of the National Assembly of being the largest beneficiaries of contracts awarded by the Commission.   Peter Nwaoboshi, senate committee chairman on NDDC; Matthew Urhoghide, senate committee chairman on public accounts, and James Manager, senator representing Delta South were some of the beneficiaries listed by the minister. The Senate and the National Assembly have also denied the allegations of its members benefitting from the contracts awarded by the ...
