The Katsina state command of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has arrested two suspected human traffickers and rescued nine suspected victims in the state.
The command comptroller, Joshua Ajisafe, who confirmed the development in a statement said that the arrest was achieved through an intelligence reports by the command provost.
The suspected traffickers are identified as 29 years old Deborah Adewunmi and Moriliya Ibrahim, 29. The rescued victims are minor age ranging from nine months to eleven years old Indigines of Ogun state.
“They started their journey from Lagos to Kano, Kano-Katsina with the mission to travel to Libya without travel documents “ He said
Mr. Ajisafe further noted that the suspected traffickers intended to meet one Mustapha Ibrahim residing in Agadez to facilitate their journey to Libya.
“The claimed to have no money to feed themselves and the children, no transport money to move further from Katsina. Their attitude and behaviour resembles that of the child traffickers/child Labour “ He added.
The traffickers and their suspected victims were handed over to NAPTIP Zonal Office Kano for further investigation.
