How Police rescued 20 kidnap victims in Edo

The Police Command in Edo, on Friday said it rescued no fewer than 20 kidnap victims across the state in the last two weeks.
Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Olusegun Odumosu, disclosed this in Benin while briefing journalists on the command’s achievements during the period.

Odumosu also revealed that 83 suspects were arrested for various crimes in the state, adding that 55 of them were held in connection with cultism, and 15 suspects for armed robbery.
He said that 11 suspects were arrested for alleged murder, and that the murder suspects included five persons arrested in connection with the murder of a police officer in Benin metropolis on Saturday.

He added that 10 arms and ammunition and 55 live cartridges were recovered from the suspects during the period.
“Also recovered within the period were six vehicles, two battle axes and cash of N200, 800.”
Odumosu said that some of the suspects had been charged to court, while cases of others were still being investigated preparatory for prosecution.

He, however, advised people with domestic staff to put the staff under watch, saying that the issue of pants and pad rituals were gradually creeping into the state.
According to him, so far, one suspect has been arrested and the suspect has made confessional statement.

FRSC returns recovered N2m to crash victim

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has rescued crash victims involved in a lone accident on the Lagos /Ibadan Expressway and returned over N2million recovered from the scene to the mother of the owner. Killings: Group demands resignation of Police IG

A human rights group, National Intervention Group of Nigeria, has called for the resignation of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, for alleged loss of morality to continue in office given his inability to tackle killings across the country. The convener of the group, Segun Akinloye, made this call on Tuesday at a press conference in Abuja on the state of the nation. West Midlands man handed suspended sentence for unregistered gas work

An unregistered gas fitter was handed a 26-month suspended sentence for carrying out gas work after his Gas Safe Registration had been removed and he had been prohibited from carrying out further work on gas appliances and fittings. Coventry Magistrates’ Court heard that 71-year-old Harcharan Singh Sembi continued to carry out unsafe work on gas appliances despite having been removed from the Gas Safe Register and prohibited from doing further gas work by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). An investigation by the HSE found that Mr Sembi was removed from the Gas Safe Register for failing to meet competency standards.
