Zimbabwe: Grenade caused blast at campaign rally – Mnangagwa

President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe said a grenade caused the explosion that killed two people at a campaign rally he was addressing on June 23, a state-owned newspaper reported on Friday.

Dozens were injured by the blast in Zimbabwe’s second city, Bulawayo, where Mnangagwa was campaigning before elections in July.

The injured included Vice President Kembo Mohadi and the ruling party’s national chairman, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, a cabinet minister, who were taken to South Africa for treatment, Mnangagwa
Mnangagwa told newsmen during an official visit to Tanzania that shrapnel had pierced Munchinguri-Kashiri’s chest, but she was recovering well at a South African hospital.

“You might be aware about events that took place Saturday when a hand grenade was thrown at me. But since you see me here, it means I am now fine,” Mnangagwa was quoted saying by the Herald newspaper.

Investigators from the police, army and national intelligence agency are still going through evidence from the Bulawayo stadium.
Mnangagwa suspects a defeated faction from his own ZANU-PF party linked to the wife of his predecessor, Robert Mugabe, was behind the attack.

Mnangagwa replaced Mugabe after a de facto coup in November.
Mugabe, accompanied by his wife Grace, is in Singapore for medical treatment and holiday, according to a senior government official who is aware of the couple’s movements.
Zimbabwe’s main opposition leader, Nelson Chamisa, told Reuters on Wednesday that he feared the government could use the grenade attack as an excuse for a crackdown on opponents, which Mnangagwa denied.

Vietnam authorities seize 3.3 tonnes of pangolin scales in a container from Nigeria

                   The customs office at Saigon Port under the Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department on May 3 seized an additional 3.3 tonnes of pangolin scales illegally imported from Africa. The container was declared by Tan Vinh Thinh Trade Co. Ltd to contain dried cashew nuts. It was in transit to Cambodia from Nigeria. After examining, the customs office and the Anti-Smuggling Police Department (C74) under the Ministry of Public Security found the pangolin scales contained in bags and covered by cashew nut bags. The city’s customs force is working with relevant agencies to further investigate the case. On April 27, HCM City’s Customs Department also seized nearly 3.8 tonnes of pangolin scales, illegally imported to Cat Lai Port in district 2. Inspector shot as police arrest three cult members

The suspects The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested three suspected cult members in Yenegwe, in the Yenagoa area of the state. The suspects – Godstime Atiburuzi, 21; Righteous Bonnafor, 20, and Godgift Ebi, 18– said to be ringleaders of the Bobos cult, were reportedly apprehended by detectives attached to the Igbogene Police Division.
