South Sudan’s Salva Kiir declares permanent ceasefire

President Salva Kiir of South Sudan has ordered implementation of the permanent ceasefire signed recently with rebel leader Riek Machar in the Sudanese capital.
President Kiir’s order aired on State radio, urged government forces to remain vigilant in their positions and fight only in self-defense and also allow unhindered humanitarian access.

“I Salva Kiir do hereby issue this republican order for declaration of permanent ceasefire with effect from June 30, 2018 and to continue in full operation permanently until otherwise.
“The SPLA forces shall remain vigilant in their positions and to fight only in an act of self-defense,” he said in Juba.
President Kiir and Machar, the leader of the main rebel group the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army-In Opposition (SPLM/A-IO), agreed to permanent ceasefire on Wednesday in Khartoum at the recent face-to-face talks mediated by the Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir.

Both the South Sudan army (SPLA) and SPLA-IO rebels have in the past violated several ceasefire agreements particularly the Agreement on Cessation of Hostilities (ACOH) signed on Dec. 21 2017 in Addis Ababa.
South Sudan descended into civil war in late 2013, and the conflict has created one of the fastest growing refugee crises in the world.

A 2015 peace agreement was shattered when the warring parties renewed fighting in July 2016 in the capital, forcing rebel leader Riek Machar to flee into exile.
The UN estimates that about four million South Sudanese have been displaced internally and externally.

Boss The Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 in Nigeria has warned states against rushing to reopen schools saying such action have escalated COVID-19 management situation in some other countries. -year-old Megan van der Zwan was mauled to death by a lioness in a game reserve near Hammanskraal, South Africa on February, 27. The former student at the University of Pretoria, had accompanied her friend to conduct an interview for an assignment at the Kevin Richardson’s Wildlife Sanctuary, located at the Welgedacht Private Game Reserve outside Pretoria. Police spokesperson Constable Connie Mohanedi said the lioness attacked the pair as they were approaching their car to leave. Scores escape death as truck rams into vehicles in Abuja

Many people escaped death on Tuesday, September 8, in Kubwa, Abuja, when a tipper truck rammed into several vehicles. The crash which occurred at Central market in Kubwa, at about 11 am, left many vehicles damaged. According to one of the survivors, Ngozichukwu, the truck suffered brake failure. and rammed into the vehicles with occupants. "This tipper failed break and was hitting many cars..... I thought more than 20persons have lost their lives already, people were crying shouting JESUS JESUS but God was just too much, too kind, too merciful because there was no serious injury and no life was lost.," she narrated.
