                       N9.2M Fraud: Former Oyo State?court registrar bags 7years jail term
On Friday, May 18, 2018, EFCC secured the conviction of a former Deputy Chief Registrar of the Oyo State High Court, Mutiat Omobola Adio.

Justice O. M. Olagunju of the Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan found the convict guilty on one of a two count charge brought against her.  The count which earns the convict a jail term borders on the allegation of obtaining the sum of N9.2 million by false pretence from one Abiodun Rasheed Olonade, Nigerian reident in Ireland.‎

Adio was ‎sentenced to 7years Imprisonment without an option of fine. The court also ordered that the convict restitute the sum of N9.2m to the victim.

The charge  reads: “that you, Mutiat Omobola Adio on or about the 19th of December, 2016, at Ibadan within the Ibadan judicial Division of this Honourable court with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of Nine million and Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N9,200,000,00) only from one Alhaji Yekini Olonade through Kunle Abimbola by falsely pretending that it was part payment of the cost price of a building and land situate, lying and being at plot 10, Block XXLV, Bashorun Estate,  Lagelu Local Government Area, Ibadan  which you purported to have sold to him”. .

COVID-19 cases in Africa over one million

                             The number of COVID-19 cases in Africa has exceeded one million, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said today. The Africa CDC, in its latest situation update said that COVID-19 cases rose to 1,007,366 as of Friday afternoon. Death toll related to COVID-19 rose from 21,617 on Thursday to 22,066 on Friday. Africa CDC also reported 690,436 COVID-19 patients have recovered across the continent so far.   South Africa, the worst-hit country on the continent, has registered 538,184 confirmed COVID-19 cases so far. It is followed by Egypt, Nigeria, Algeria and Morocco, the agency said. Africa CDC also said eight countries have reported higher COVID-19 fatality rates compared to the global average. A pastor Adetokunbo Adenopo arrested for kidnapping

                        A 52 year-old pastor in Sagamu, Ogun state, Adetokunbo Adenopo, has been arrested by detectives attached to the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) for kidnapping. The pastor who the police said is the founder and general overseer of New Life Ministry, in Lukosi, Sagamu in Ogun state was arrested along with three other members of his gang. The police identified the three suspects as Chigozie Williams 22years, native of Umuahia North, Abia State, Ugoji Linus 30years, native of Ezinifite in Imo State and Emmanuel Chris Ani, 27years, native of Aniri in Enugu State. They were all arrested in connection with the kidnap of a 35 year-old Jonathan Ekpo, staff of a delivery company.
