A mother has been arrested for burning her daughter with an electric iron in Lagos, Nigeria.
Ayo Sheriff, 30, used an electric iron to burn Aishat Sheriff, 16, at their home over a minor misunderstanding.

According to the Lagos State Police Command, Aishat, a secondary school student and a part-time student auxillary nurse, was given 500 Naira by her boss to give 200 Naira to someone on her way home, use 50 Naira for her transport, and return the balance of 250 Naira the following day.
However, Aishat came to work the following day without the balance and when her boss asked her for the money, she claimed it was with her mother. The boss reportedly called Aishat's mother to ask about the money but Ayo Sheriff knew nothing about it.
When Aishat returned home from work, her mother plugged in an iron and burnt her arm and thighs "for being a disgrace to the family".

A statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chike Oti, stated that the Lagos state Commissioner of Police "was miffed at the sight of of the horrible wounds inflicted on a child by her mother. He therefore called on parents to correct their children in love.

"He said the rate at which cases of domestic violence is increasing is now a source of concern to the Command."

The Gender Section of the Command, headed by SP(Mrs) Adejoke Cole, has concluded investigation into the case and would charge the suspect to Ikeja Magistrate Court tomorrow 30th April, 2018.

Nigeria will break if we release list of those who have received contracts from NDDC- Cairo Ojougboh

The executive director of projects at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Cairo Ojougboh, says Nigeria will break if the commission releases the list of highly placed Nigerians who have benefitted from contracts awarded by the commission.   The NDDC has been in the spotlight after the National Assembly launched an investigation into allegations of financial recklessness in the commission. The investigation took a different turn when the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, accused members of the National Assembly of being the largest beneficiaries of contracts awarded by the Commission.   Peter Nwaoboshi, senate committee chairman on NDDC; Matthew Urhoghide, senate committee chairman on public accounts, and James Manager, senator representing Delta South were some of the beneficiaries listed by the minister. The Senate and the National Assembly have also denied the allegations of its members benefitting from the contracts awarded by the ...

Nigerian Army disobeys court order, denies detained soldier access to lawyer, wife

Despite an order of the Federal High Court in Abuja, mandating the Nigerian Army to allow a detained soldier, Idakpini Martins, see his lawyer and family, the Force on Wednesday, refused to obey. Mr Martins, a lance corporal, was arrested over a viral video on social media criticising the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, for “failing to provide adequate resources to soldiers combating Boko Haram.” He also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to be “serious in its fight against insurgency.” He has since been detained and has remained incommunicado for over a month without access to his lawyer nor family. Following a rights violation lawsuit, on July 22, Justice A. I. Chikere of the Federal High Court, Abuja granted the soldier access to his lawyer and relative. The judge held that it was a contravention of the fundamental human rights of the soldier not to be allowed to see h...

Brothers put metal balls in their penises to make rape more painful for their female victims

Two sick brothers are on trial in Spain after inserting metal balls into their penises in order to cause more pain to the women they were raping. When they were in jail, Cristian and Sebastian Sandulache made a series of cuts along their penises and inserted small metal balls into the incisions. The metal balls apparently makes sex more pleasurable to them, but more painful to the women with whom they practice it. A court has been told how Cristian and Sebastian Sandulache pimp women at a brothel in Oviedo in Spain, where they raked in up to £10,000 each night. Prosecutors described how the brothers chopped off one woman's arm with a samurai sword, while other women were forced to eat Euro notes if they failed to make enough money. The brothers from Vaslui in Romania are facing 600 years in prison for the horrific crimes they committed. They are accused of human trafficking, coercive prostitution, and money laundering at the cou...
