EFCC Arraigns Businessman Over N3.2m Scam
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, today April 12, 2017 arraigned one Owen Njoku before Justice Sailu Saidu of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on one court charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of Three Million, Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N3, 250, 000.00) only.
The accused person allegedly collected the sum of Three Million from one Odigwe Cletus for the purchase of three plots of land situated at Ohia Ugiri, Igbo-Etche Rivers State which was later discovered to be false.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.
In view of his plea, the prosecution counsel A. Osu asked the court to fix a date for the commencement of trial while the defence counsel U.E.Uzobho told the court that he has filed an application for bail. He told the court that the accused person will not jump bail and that he will be available to face his trial.
Justice Saidu granted the accused bail in the sum of N5million naira with one surety in like sum. The surety must be a civil servant of grade level 9 and above. The prosecution and bailiff are to verify the surety.
The matter was adjourned to April 26, 2017 for trial while the accused is to be remanded in prison custody pending the perfection of his bail.

136 new cases of Coronavirus recorded in Nigeria

  136 new cases of Coronavirus were recorded in Nigeria on Saturday September 26, as confirmed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).    A breakdown of the new cases across states is as follows; Lagos-41, Ogun-27, Rivers-19, Abia-10, Oyo-6, Plateau-6, Bauchi-5, Ondo-5, Ekiti-4, Kaduna-4, Edo-3, Ebonyi-2, Bayelsa-1, Delta-1, Osun-1, Yobe-1.    There are now 58,198 confirmed cases of Coronavirus in the country and 1,106 deaths have been recorded. 49,722 patients who recovered from the disease have also been discharged.
