A scald injury can happen at any age. Children, older adults and people with disabilities are especially at risk. Hot liquids from bath water, hot coffee and even microwaved soup can cause devastating injuries. Scald burns are the second leading cause of all burn injuries.

SCALD SAFETY

◽Teach children that hot things can burn. Install anti-scald devices on tub faucets and shower heads.

◾Always supervise a child in or near a bathtub.

◽Test the water at the faucet. It should be less than 100° Fahrenheit (38° Celsius). Before placing a child in the bath or getting in the bath yourself, test the water. Burn Rx Treat a burn right away. Cool the burn with cool water for 3–5 minutes. Cover with a clean, dry cloth. Get medical help if needed.

◾Test the water by moving your hand, wrist and forearm through the water. The water should feel warm, not hot, to the touch. Place hot liquids and food in the center of a table or toward the back of a counter. ◽Have a “kid-free zone” of at least 3 feet around the stove and areas where hot food or drink is prepared or carried.

◾ Open microwaved food slowly, away from the face. Never hold a child while you are cooking, drinking a hot liquid, or carrying hot foods or liquids.

◽Never heat a baby bottle in a microwave oven. Heat baby bottles in warm water from the faucet.

◾Allow microwaved food to cool before eating.

◽Choose prepackaged soups whose containers have a wide base or, to avoid the possibility of a spill, pour the soup into a traditional bowl after heating.

Woman caught after stealing N22,000 from a nursing mother in Abuja

The lady pictured on her knees was caught at a market in Abaji, Abuja after she stole the sum of N22,000 from the woman seen breast feeding her child. The money was recovered from her and she was subsequently handed over to the police by the chief of Abaji market.

Armed bandits attacks on Zamfara State have continued to increase the number of Internally Displaced Persons in Maradun Local Government area of the state. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that victims from different villages in the local government area are continuously moving to Maradun town. Five IDP camps have now been established while registration is on going at all the centers. Addressing journalists at one of centers, the councillor, Maradun ward, Sirajo Madugu, said communities from about 50 villages had been sacked by bandits. Mr Madugu said some communities were leaving their villages due to the attacks, while others for fear of imminent attack. He said ”we cannot ascertain the number of displaced persons for now because it is increasing by the day”. Car bombs by jihadists kill 18 people near the presidential palace in Somalia

At least 18 people were killed and 20 wounded when two car bombs exploded on Friday near the presidential palace and a hotel in the Somali capital of Mogadishu, the city’s main ambulance service said. “We have so far collected 18 bodies and 20 wounded persons from one of the blast scenes,” Abdukadir Abdurahman Aden of the Aamin Ambulance told AFP.
